If one tpms sensor is faulty, does it all stop?

Hi guys!
Had all sensors replaced 5 years ago. And then the tpms ECU shortly after.
It's now returned.
Tyre garage said to just replace the 2 sensors he can't read. But I thought the display would simply show the two working wheels at least if this was the case?
Does anybody have any experience here? Thanks!!

The battery life of the sensors is 5-6 years. Replace the 2 sensors and it’ll work. If one doesn’t work, the system is unavailable.
