My Bella did her best but **** me that was a nightmare. And Boston tomorrow. Nearly stacked it twice parking back in the close. 4mph, but the brakes: They do nothing!

The snow does make for some wonderful background scenery - braved the temperatures in the QP heading over to AV for a flying visit earlier this week. Also greeted by the snowflake symbol on the dash which is a new one to me!

Separately, a frosted SZ today outside a local Alfa specialist - apparently he looks after five of them.

-8.7 at 0830. Climbing nicely ATM
Managed to get the Ghibli off the drive but effectively zero steering or braking at the same time. Left if much closer to our entrance road as I have a fighting chance of getting it out tomorrow and the house had started dropping lumps of ice on it.

Apparently none of the big boys make all season tyres in any of the sizes the car takes on the rear :sad3:

You need to put some winters on her - I have Contis and they’re very good. My wife is a petrolhead and devoted Audi driver (S5 presently) and she’s bragged relentlessly about how amazing her car is in these conditions as it’s a 4wd. However, she was forced to park across our drive the other day as her (summer) tyres were spinning as she tried to reverse onto the drive. No problem at all for the Ghibli, and I’m pleased to report that the Italian is on the drive whilst the German is relegated to the road - where it belongs!

I would but aren't they a bit, well, rubbish in the 'summer' Not sure ICBA to change the tyres (or store a set of wheels)

I had a set of nearly new winters on mine when I bought it. I was loathe to spend another 1200 quid on a set of tyres so ran those through the summer and they were fine. I only changed them because one got damaged so bit the bullet. Continental they were.

Yes, I swap and store every year. It actually saves money in the long run as summer tyres wear quickly in winter conditions (and vice versa). This is the fourth year that this set of winters has been on the car, and they have plenty of life left in them. It’s the added confidence and safety that you can’t really put a price on though …

I totally get it. When do you put the winters on is the other thing. Here in the Essex riviera, we just don't know when we're going to get a snap like now. On Monday it's going to be 11C and you'd not really want winters then?

Yes, judging when to swap the tyres is more of an art rather than a science, and I’ve been caught out plenty of times by both unseasonally warm days and unseasonally cold days - that’s the trouble with living on an island in the North Atlantic! As a general rule of thumb, I swap them over in March and November using a mobile tyre fitter who charges £100 per swap
