I disagree - when it gets to the really cheap Chinese end, then if people are prepared to fit total rubbish to save a few quid, it's unlikely that they have spent freely on the rest of the maintenance.

I agree Drew. However when it comes to Kumhos there is a confusion. Kumho have factories in Korea and China. The Korean tyres are far better. A decent supplier can tell you which model tyre is manufactured where and if you stick to the Korean version, they're decent. There is usually around a 40% price difference between tyres from each factory with them so it can be as easy as looking at cost.

Vreds all the way. Always been pleased with them in all situations.

Maybe if they were truly at the very cheap end of the market but in that case they are likely not to even have the correct speed rating - but even if that was the situation it does not indicate how the car has been maintained. I know people who stick to maintenance regimes but equally would not be that switched on to tyre brands unless it was something really obscure.

Equally an owner or garage may stick a set of new tyres on a car when selling it if tyres are low on tread etc. To some degree I don't trust the tyres on any second hand car what ever the brand.

While talking about tyres I was told before Christmas by a tyre supplier that lots of cars have the correct premium make / size of tyre but with the wrong manufacturer designation and that insurance companies have used it as a get out clause - I don't know how true this is but it did make me wonder about cars possibly having miss matched compounds on an axle?

I've used Kumho tyres, and found them to be absolutely fine - it's a decent mid-range brand from a company with motor-racing interests.

It's a bit more complicated too than just sweeping statement 'Chinese' tyre - perhaps I should have said tyres with an essentially unknown Chinese brand; the 'ditchfinder' tyres. There are some of the premium brand manufacturers with plants in China, and they turn out top-end tyres, using the same formulations and manufacturing process as in Europe. They just pay the workforce ten-bob and a conker, and it brings the price per unit right down.

Ran Kumho's on the Alfa GT, nothing wrong with them and I would fit them again.

Remember Falken 452's they were mid range and we all loved them on here could be the same for Kumho's???

Myself, Ill be running a matching set of Goodies Eagle F1 ASY 2's and at that price, its rude not to as they are arguably the best tyre out there.

Nothing but Michelin Pilot Sport 3 on my cars! Drove faster around the Nordschleife with my PS3 fitted on my previous GTV than rental GT86 with semislicks!

More SM thread creep :)

It is surprising no matter how much we think we know we can miss things on secondhand cars at least it didn't cost you any money.

Tyres, just fitted Eagle F1 AS2s to the Spyder (always been an Eagle F1 fan) and they have transformed the car which I knew they would, choose them over the Vreds despite the price difference.

and finally I know the Alfa 3.2 V6 is a lovely engine but paying over £8k to get one in either a GTV, GT or 166 is too much money for my liking.

Don't see many 3.2 V6 Spiders for sale...Are there many about. That looks lovely....It's hard to say what they are worth these days as so few around.

36 in the UK or there were, so half of those will be high mileage, scrapped or tatty.

This is why I bought mine, they are very, very rare cars and we all know what happens to rare Italian cars, price wise (hears hoping)

Doesn't apply to Alfas, I have a few rare ones and none of them have gone up in value since I bought them

GTVV6, the 1980's car, that went Stella as did the early Spiders.

You just obviously bought badly :)
