Hi chaps, I've a niggling feeling that I'm going to have to have 'one of those conversations' with my local Mot station... Car failed on broken spring, so had some ordered, the car should have been ready yesterday, but tstill no contact from them...

How long should it take and how much should it cost to replace the rear springs on a Skyhook QPV if I have supplied the springs?

Rear springs are pretty easy, 1 hex bolt bottom and 4 hex bolts top and they can be removed. Should be 2-4 hours labor I would guess - I just did mine in less than four hours without a lift.

Pretty easy you say....its all about the bottom hex bolt.

Soak it every day for a week with penetrating fluid and make sure you clean the head out and hammer the hex in and use a long bar.

We have seen them snap and its a nightmare to have drilled out, we have to get professionals in to do it.

They also can pull the threads so inspect the bolt thoroughly.

Also, remember to disconnect your Skyhook plug on the top, if you drop the strut without doing it then it rips and then your in all sorts problems.

Just done a GranCab and you have to take the roof floor out, clean off all the sealer, total nightmare.

thanks for the replies, due to one thing or another I was worried id be stung, but got the car back last night and was charged £300 for the MOT, fitting 4 tyres and the rear springs, all of which I supplied, so looks pretty reasonable

@conaero the plug being ripped out was my first thought when the repair overran and I wasnt contacted! horrible images ran through my mind of them telling me that the cable had corroded and them charging me for new dampers!
