How do people go from Maserati to anything else?

Just wondered after owning a Maser, how do people change to anything else?

I went in the weekend to test drive a few cars as I'm looking to change. Was looking for a saloon but something pokey so had a look at the Audi S8 Plus. Absolute beast of a car. It was better in every way, more space, more power, more torque, more tech, more everything. But after all was done, I got into the Maser and something just clicked. *£$* me i dont know what it was. Even tried a Continental GT earlier and that was just absolute tosh.

I need to change though I dont know what to. Was just having a look at the Quattroporte. Its not much more of a car but its still a Maserati.

What have people got after owning Maseratis?

I would say the feeling is more analogue, raw, gritty in a Maserati. A new (most that I assume you are considering) car feels all lovely and cosseting, but a little dead. I drove a Maca 650s the other day for a few hours. It was an mind-bending experience, but still felt great getting back into the stradale, firing her up, jostling out of the car park and flooring her, clicking up the paddles on the way on to the highway.

Need to find a way to keep her!

I would say that is depends on what Maserati you have. Those coming from a 4200/GS/GT have a different starting point to the QP/Ghibli owners.

As well as the Ghibli I regularly drive an older Alfa Spider. That provides a very different, much more analogue, experience. Its chalk and cheese but both appeal at different times. I know that when I'm looking to replace the Ghibli I'm going to struggle to go elsewhere if I replace it with a car to do a similar role. The combination of noise and comfort are unique.

Mine is very much a toy, which can be used for normal duties if required. It does have a certain "something" that makes it special. If I changed it would only be for a 348 as I wanted one since my 20s. I know the AC will be the better car, quicker, and ten years newer, but sometimes that's not the point.

There are far too many great cars to try before you die to just stick to one marque but Maserati certainly gets under your skin and on the 2nd hand market it's a lot of exotic for your money.

Don't buy a 348. That will be a case of why you should never meet your heroes. They are **** with a capital S.

Life is possible after a Maserati... you just have to treble the cost to get more fun.
Miss my GTS

Yep, that's about right Iain....not much else can give you the same thrill as a 35k GTS probably.

Most won't get into a GTS to be fair and for that we should be very grateful but Iain is right I am finding it hard to think what to get next!!!! The sound of mine is perfect and just how I wanted it to be so when I get into a 458 it just sounds like a screaming banshee and wrong! The difference between the Cross plane crank and the flat plane is what makes the big difference.....

Remember folks, I come from an era of Morris 1100s and Allegros!!! It may be bad to drive, relative to others, but your not really buying a car, (there will no doubt be loads more capable,) your buying a clickety clackety gear gate, and a part of motoring history.

Yeh but they are ****. As Dave says, get into a 355, it’s much better. So is the 550m, although the prices now reflect this.
