Thanks guys I think I will get it detailed and then try to keep on top of it myself ....although I have to be honest would rather be driving it...a quick wash and polish is one thing but these detailers spend a good day on them!

Thanks for all the advice though....I love this forum!

My car is covered in swirl marks! Had the front end resprayed last summer and its already got fine scratches. I have been using the 2 bucket method(never did before) but it doesn't seem to stop the scratches. I have now stopped cleaning the car as often as before.

Are you using a good quality, deep pile, wash mitt or sponge? Do you make sure it's clean all the while? Try a touchless wash prior to a real wash. Always work in straight lines, never circles.

you can buy polish with fillers in which help hide the swirls, im told Poorboys Black Hole Glaze, is good, i havent bought and tried my self yet, but i will do come spring and i can wash my car properly, im very careful with my car, using wash mitts etc, but i just dont have time to use snow foam, 2 buckets with grit guards etc so my car is always going to have some swirls :( but im hoping that polish will help.

I wouldn't use it on your Maser if I were you, it's name gives the game away, it's designed for dark coloured paintwork! They do a white diamond version for lighter colours.

I may try the Poorboys... I must admit I have got quite a few waxes... But none seem to make much difference

if you have a good wax, try serveral thin layers about 3+. as grinzzz said use straight lines, also don't put any pressure on the wash mitt, just drag it across the surface.

If your near MK I could help remove the swirls

Bilthamber auto balm is a really easy filling polish to use, used after claying my old black 9-5 aero it hid all the hedge rash on the near side!

I tend to keep it very basic, use the 2 bucket method to wash with a Meguires lambs wool mit, I then use Meguires Scratch X followed by Auto Glym "Ultra Deep Shine" (it has fillers in) then Auto Glym Wax on top.

I clay every 6 months to get rid of contaminates

The Meguires stuff can be bought quite cheap on Amazon.

If the scratches are deep then a detailer is the way to go, machine polishing will sort it and will give you a good base going forward

I was told if your swirl marks are removed/polished out that it is only tempory and they come back in the end.

Brendan, watch this an you will get the picture fully I reckon.

Waxing (and Sealing) alone do get rid of swirls but it will indeed be a short term solution, using a compound, you smooth the total surfact reducing the swirls and also removing them, to a point. Watch the vid, you'll be "aaaahh I get it" when you do.

If you want to see an example of a before and after from a decent detailer, here are some pics etc. of mine being dealt with

http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=267571

trasnformational - even swmbo noticed and I am not sure she would know what colour her own car is without checking if you asked her!

JPJPJP - those pics have convinced me to get a detailer in even if just to get to a good base point which I can then take care of. The car looks stunning after the treatment ... Completely transformed.

Detailer is the way forward me thinks!

Thanks for all the comments and having watched the process on YouTube on Ammonyc, I haven't got the time of patience to do it properly.

When I get it done ill post before and after pics

This sounds lame,,,, but it works.. I have a Jaguar, black, and a Maserati, blue. The black jag shows all the fine scratches, and drives me crazy. I had it buffed out, but still showing scratches. I bought black car polish. It goes on, and off, very easy. Your scratches will be gone. It lasts a few months. It really does work. I have a blue bottle on the way for my blue Maserati
