HELP: Strange engine noise in crankshaft area with my Granturismo

Hi there, I just joined the forum hoping someone could help out here. Sofar the German and US forums have interesting contributions but no clear diagnosis or solution. But sorry: Let me start with the problem: I got recently a Granturismo, bj 2008, 35000 miles, 12 month warranty with my dealer.
The car had two problems: the Navi did not work and a strange noise with the engine.
The car was 2 weeks back with my dealer. The Navi works now - but needs more than 5 minutes to start up.
With regard to the noise they changed some wheels or rolls....but the noise is still there.

The noise only is there when the engine is on operating temperature. There is no strange noise at all when the engine is cold. The noise disappears when pulling out the oildip stick and reappears when putting the dip stick back in. Sofar I got some feedback that this might be PCV related, the crankshaft has apparently underpressure, hot oil (warm engine) is pulled to some parts of the crankshaft not lubrifying other parts hence creating this mechanical noise. Pulling the dip stick or driving would eliminate the underpressure: hence no noise
I am a layman and therefore can only summarize what I was told. My dealer has not yet had this problem with other Maseratis, but well with BMW.

Here is a link to Youtube with my strange noise: Hopefully someone can help me out heer. Thanks. T.

A failed PCV shouldn’t have any effect on oil pressure.

As C has said it seems like air is getting into the engine/ induction system which is under negative pressure from the PCV. You’ve got an air leak somewhere, split vacuum tubing, failed seal on dip stick or filler cap, failed fuel vapour solenoid, failed PCV.

If the PCV is ok there should be a light sucking if you place your hand over the dip stick or filler.

Have a wiggle of all the hoses to see if the engine note changes or use some easy start or WD40.

Find the fuel vapour solenoid, it will come on a little after start up and you’ll hear or feel it clicking

Hi and welcome.

First I’ll deal with your Nav. The reason it takes 5 mins to boot is that the hard disc is failing. This is well know as the temperatures drop. I take it beforehand it was just stuck on the logo screen? Take it back to your dealer and demand they replace the unit with a new one.

The noise as you appear to have already worked out is crank pressure related. It obviously not venting where it should and thus pulling the dipstick releases it. Again return it to the dealer and demand they fix it or ‘back’ the car and get your money back.

Correct the hard drive is failing. The dealer won't be able to source a replacement NIT as there are none. Send them my way and I can help them. I've supplied numerous specialists with them in the past.

Thanks to all for the responses.
By the way: am I at risk when I do not repair the crankshaft ventilation issue?

Best regards,
Thomas

Well it’s not advisable to drive it as increased crank pressure will force oil past the piston rings and cause oil pockets and risk starvation.
