Hi,

For some reason whilst I was driving this eve the car decided it would not change gear and a warning light came on.its the one that comes on wen reverse selector is not connected or is loose.I have a cambiocorsa.when I try to start the car there is nothing as it seems to think theres no gears just stays in neutral and won't start.all electrics work.tried turning off battery in boot, but to no avail.still shows warning light and won't start

Any ideas wat the cause could be? I'm. Waiting for AA to come to ladbroke grove to save me!

Does sound like the clutch has gone....my reverse selector played up....but still allowed me to change gears

I had a sneaking feeling it might be that.....thought I had more life in it even though the spigot bearing was making her squeal/howl like a banshee whenever I pulled off!

2 things to check.

1. Does the gearbox try and select a gear, by this I mean there is a lot of clunking coming from the back of the car then it gives up. If it does, your clutch cover springs/tangs have collapsed.

2. Does the pump from the rear of the car whirr when you unlock the car first thing and open the door. If it does not you have a hydraulic issue.

My guess, the actuator or pump has gone if the answer is no to both of the above.

ok so got home at stupid o'clock in the morning. Must remember to cancel AA membership. Absolutely diabolic customer service.

Conero/Loz there is no whirring sound from the pump when i unlock or open the car door nor is there any clunking. It didn't even try to select a gear. I got ZERO reaction pulling the flappy paddles. i suppose Pump is a cheaper option in terms of repair costs but im sure the clutch is on the way out anyways.........exactly what i DONT need whilst trying to pay for a wedding next year.

going to get it towed to Autofficina....just awaiting a price for it to be taken there.

Thanks for the comments chaps

Could even be a burnt out F1 pump relay, but I think the pump also gets frazzled in the process........hoping its not the most expensive option M300!

ok so just got off the phone to one specialist (not Autofficina) who reckons it's about £1500 (parts& labour VAT) to change the F1 pump.........can anyone tell me if that sounds right???? it sounds VERY high to me considering the pump costs £192. Apparently the last pump he bought was £800?!?!?!?!

please someone tell me £1500 is a nonsense.

Yup,....nonsense.......but the ones on ebay etc are the pump minus the little electrical box that comes with it.....need a firm diagnosis.....that £1500 is more a clutch change price........

if it is the complete actuator assembly, they are over £2,250 each new, sometimes Eurospares have used ones in stock. All depends on what has gone, could be just a relay of course.

Alfa selespeed pump £280 or there abouts (maserati pump ) well skies the limit , use the selespeed pump its identical , fitting should be around £150 possibly £200n if it needs bleeding , but it rarely does

Lambs to the slaughter , in 6 years ive only ever heard of one actuator going , dealers used to swap them like underwear at the slightest sign of clutch/ pump problems often for the sake of a 50p pump fuse or £30 relay , in those days we didn't know what we know now , no whirring noise its definately pump , just get the dealer/indie to do a clutch wear check on the diag whilst your present , the read out can be manipulated ,unlikely this would happen if you were watching the tech click a few laptop keys

Did my post above assume that dealers were swapping out uneccessary parts ........wwell i never who of thought it
