Help needed on potential Granturismo purchase

Yes I do feel a little trepid about using non-specialist dealers, but at this point I'm really just browsing and trying to view a handful of cars to see what sort of state they're in and get a feel for how well they age. In terms of inspections, any GT I purchase will have to be handed over to my tame independent Maserati garage, Emblem in Poole, for a thorough pre-delivery going-over, so that will be covered. Whoever I purchase from (as long as they're a dealer), the Sale of Goods act gives me full cover for 6 months (and yes I have invoked SoGA very successfully in the past) - I never get or rely on warranties, as you say they are not worth the paper they're written on. I am curious as to why you would recommend buying privately though.

SOGA no longer applies sorry. Look up Consumer Rights applicable to cars.

I'm doing an oil change between servicing on mine, oil is about £40 for 10 litres so it's hardly expensive

Where do you get oil from! I paid £50 for 3 litres of gearbox oil! 8 litres for the 3200 was at least £50 (selenia)

carparts4less often has the 5w40 shell ferrari approved oil for around £20 for 5 litres, price fluctuates between £18-22 depending on price/discount offers

Yeah the mileage is just a little on the high side - there's a grey one on Autotrader with 32,000 miles for £30K

Sorry but you're talking rubbish. Not only does SOGA apply, I have used it to great effect several times, for instance when I made a dealer take back a Mercedes E320, because he never produced the paperwork he promised. A Jaguar XF was at the dealer for 45 days having extensive repairs shortly after I bought it, all for free under SoGA. My Boxster went back to Porsche Reading and had several things fixed, under SoGA. I could go on. I never buy warranties for that exact reason, SoGA. If you think SoGA doesn't apply, you had better tell all the dealers because every time I mention it, they cave in and fix my cars. :)

A bold claim :D

I've owned more cars than you have probably had hot dinners.

If you bought the car after 01 October 2015, you only have 30 days to reject a second-hand car and get a full refund under the Consumer Rights Act.

If you bought the car before 01 October 2015, then you must reject the car within a reasonable time under the Sale of Goods Act.

I ain't gonna argue with you about it. I've used SoGA to great effect and will continue to do so. :)

There is no argument SOGA is no longer applicable for car sales, it has been replaced by the consumer rights act.

I'm not sure it does apply or not or maybe something similar. My brother had an issue last year after he sold my old RRS SC for me.

It went wrong after 2 months and he offered to fix it free of charge. Even offered to collect it on low loader, give the guy a courtesy car while the repair was done and drop it back after.

He was having none of it for some reason. Different agenda maybe. He took my brother to court and it went all the way to court. On the day the judge ruled half towards my brother and half towards the buyer. The 4k bill was effectively split 2k each. It definitely went to court and after Oct 15.

My brother offered to pay for the 4k day one in essence so no idea why that wasn't good enough for the buyer at the time. That is the only case my brother has had though in some years.

Whether the SOGA applies or not I have no idea but a decent dealer will always try to resolve the issue as their reputation is so important to future sales and business.
