2004 GS been running absolutely fine.

Today, drove 30 mins. parked 2 hours, started fine. Drove 10 mins to petrol station, wouldn't start. All dash lights OK, battery OK, turning over but wouldn't fire. Left for 10 mins and after several winds on the starter button eventually grumbled into life but then ran fine.

Drive 30 mins home all fine, sport and normal, normal pull from all speeds. In the drive, switch off, won't start...

Any ideas?

Thanks

Howard

1st job for any starting issues is a battery...if they are less than 100% you will have problems.

Hm, could be heat related as the cooling fans seemed to be on all the time - even when the temp wasn't high...

I'm with Safrane. Battery first, even if you think it's fine. They're about £80 from Eurocarparts and often the issue.

if the fan is running and not hot then you could have error code which will give you an idea if battery or a sensor. if your local to mk i have one if not maybe someone else local to you may also have a reader to plug in for you

Check the above if not check TDC sensor and fuel pump relay, classic hot start issues.

i had this issue, mine turned out to be the thermostat and water temp sensor

It was the water temperature sensor for me too. Cheap fix although not in the easiest location to get too.

Funnily enough I had a strange on in my 3200 at the weekend. Been on long run with no issues. Parked up for 20 mins went to start and just would not fire. stop turning over and attempted again and it fired up. I was suspecting starter motor (common problem) but could it have been position of TDC or crank sensor?

Suggest the following easy checks, first up:
1) Plug in OBD scanner for any reported errors (should give rough guide, even if not as accurate as SD2/3)
2) Ensure terminals on battery are firmly connected. This is a common cause of spurious issues.

Phil,
We once had a funny turn with our AC, running fine, then just would not start, had to have it recovered..!! Eventual assumption was Radio Interference of the immobiliser, as we were parked near a high level transmission mast or something, it happens around such as Filingdales, it started fine when it got to Autoshield..!!

Interesting Robert but don't think it was immobiliser issue, no key symbol on the dash and it was more of a starting electrical/mechanical issue. As soon as I stopped and cranked again it was fine....

Logged the ECU and no codes stored.

We did not have any key symbol either just a red flashing lamp now and again, it was really weird and all that tried could not do anything. It just got to Autoshield on the truck then started first time as sweet as usual..??

This started within 1 minute of it failing. It was more glitch or the beginning of a battery/ starter motor issue. Will have to keep and eye on it.
