Help - can't get into my car....

OK, came to the car just now, pressed the key fob to open the car, the alarm did the usual two beeps but the light on the door didn't go green and I can't get in.

I pressed lock and it beeped once again as it usually does.

Now, with either key, nothing happens.

I presume it is the battery.

Any ideas?

Have you tried using the key in the door? Possibly the battery in the key fob is flat. From the Handbook*: “When the remote control battery is flat, to access the vehicle you must insert the key in the lock on one of the two front doors and turn it clockwise to release it: the alarm will sound but you will have to continue with the normal starting procedure regardless. The alarm will switch off.”
* this is from the QP-V Facelift (2009) Handbook. Not sure if same applies to GTS. Also: have you tried using the spare key?

I'm pretty sure it's not the key fobs.

Now when I press either key to open the indicators flash (dimly I thought) but there is no beep. The doors do not go green and I cannot get in the car, even with the using the key in the manual lock.

I'll call Maserati assist.

Sounds like a flat battery on your car, however the mechanical locks are unpowered and should open fine.
What happens when you try to use the keys mechanicaly?

OK, firstly I didn't realise the door handle had two sections to it so I managed to get in just as the RAC (sent by Maserati assistance) turned up.

As suspected the car has a flat battery and was only showing 6 volts. The guy connected his pack and the car started. I'm not sure if he is supposed to 'jump' it and I did mention this.

Once started several warning lights we're on and the light relating to the electronic headlight angle was flashing. I drove 200 yards down the road and got further warnings including power steering and gearbox. The RAC bloke said it's not uncommon for further warnings to pop up and it'll probably need resetting at the dealer.

The car will now be recovered to Maserati and I'll keep you posted as to what happens next.

It's unusual for a 2 year old battery to just die so hopefully they'll do a full electrical test to find out why it's flat

It's just a dud battery which happens irrespective of age sometimes. Get a new one and if you leave it for more than a week or if you do mainly short journies, buy a ctek charger to keep it tip top. There are so many systems running on these cars even when parked and locked and each one drains the battery.

The RAC bloke said that the battery seemed OK but that something is draining it. It's off to Joe Macari tomorrow so let's see what they find.

Tracker will drain these. I suspect you will need a similar reset to the systems as I had recently. It's called a proxy align.

Yep Tracker. Its internal battery has died and its scavenging power from the main battery.

I flattened the battery on mine when the car was under three months old then I bought a CTEK. These cars don't like being run for less than 30-40 minutes. Do that a dozen or so times and the battery will not have enough voltage. Easy fix is to buy the CTEK or another battery charger/conditioner. Lots of Aston/Porsche owners use them too.

If it is the tracker will it be covered under warranty? From memory it is NavTrak and it came with the car when I bought it from Maranello.

Unlikely to be a tracker and every chance it will come back having had the battery charged up and no drain found. Easy fix with a CTEK.

The Subaru doesn't like short trips, it doesn't charge the battery at all for the first few miles , something to do with fuel economy when cold, as soon as it warms up the alternator kicks in , it can be made to charge from start up by switching the lights on.

Wonder if maseratis have something similar if there's so many battery problems

Exactly same thing happened on my 2 year old cabrio, car recovered to Dick Lovetts, problem with tracker, Nav Trak engineer involved, new battery and everything OK. Now use Maserati ( CTek) charger that was in the boot from new from Dickies, no further problems.

OK, getting the car back from Joe Macari tomorrow.

They claim nothing has drained it and it is down to the short mileage trips I do.

I'm not convinced as on the Friday before the Sunday when it was flat I did a round trip of 200 miles.

I will get a charger of some kind and will Google CTEK etc.

Hopefully the battery conditioner will see the end to your troubles - good luck
