Hi guys I really don't like the orange lenses on the front headlights of my Grancabrio. Any suggestions please??
The latest clear headlights are over 4k and covering them with a vinyl wrap isn't a good solution as it takes away the character.
Is there a way to dismantle the headlights to get to these orange deflectors?

I am aware that the 4200 and GS lights could be cut open and re painted...so I guess the same is possible with the GT light

Oddly enough Mark and I were discussing exactly this last night. On the basis that breaking open the headlight units or replacing them is simply not worth the cost and bother Mark's suggestion - and I think it might just work - is to soften the orange rather than attempt to remove it completely. He suggested using semi-translucent wrap to cover just the orange part. Without looking up really close you'd not know there was any wrap there and the orange should be dimmed a little without masking the fact that the indicator is flashing.

"Busy" is to Bee like "Anal" is to Maserati owner...
;-)

I'm scared to wash my car in case I end up spending the next 2 weeks finishing the job....

If something annoys you and changing that does not cut the quality of the car, then give it a go..!!

There are 6 things you can do here...

1) Headlight protectors
http://www.headlightarmor.com/08-14-maserati-granturismo-headlight-protection-kit.aspx
or
http://www.lamin-x.com/Maserati-GranTurismo-09-Headlight-Covers-p/ms003.htm

2) Grab some headlight tinting film from Fleabay and carefully cut and cover just the orange areas as per Adam's idea.

3) Buy new headlights without the offending orange area.

4) Crack open the headlight and see if you can DIY somthing

5) Sell the car and buy a newer one.

6) Swap it with me, I'll live with the orange. :)

Easy.

I'd pick option 1 by the way. A good. laser cut film, well applied to the whole headlight should look the most professional I reckon.

2. was MAF's idea. I can't take credit.

Some cars don't look to be too bright on the orange compared to others, did they change the orange reflector at some point..??

I'd never studied GT lights at close hand before, but it was interesting (jeez, I'm dull!) to see the different versions last night. The latest incarnation as sported on Dougie's GT Sport is my favourite - black housing around the lights with a lovely Maserati script alongside the clear reflector. Very clean and detailed. The 4.2 GT has a chrome surround and orange reflector, whilst the GTS has a black surround with orange reflector. Given the cost of replacement headlight units it's understandable that nobody yet appears to have bought newer versions or split their originals to make the required changes.

Not sure if the different colours /shades was an option. Mine are definitely quite dark, apart from the slash of orange. The side repeaters have clear lenses, as do the back. It's only really the fronts which stand out.

(Maybe we all need to get out more.)

Cheers Maf
The strange thing is my headlamps are a no cost option on the car which is bonkers as it definitely suits it the best

I had the chrome with the orange reflectors on the GT-S auto and I was looking into replacig them with the latest ones. Unfortunately, the latest ones with DRL would not work on the earlier GTs, well, not without modifying the electrical systems that control the lights anyway.

I started looking a the ones with the black reflector to get rid of the chrome headlights, but was lucky to find a set from 2012-2013, with the orange reflectors removed but without the DRL. The set was a direct plug and play, no modifications were needed.

Where did you manage to find those headlights? On Ebay?
Were the orange reflectors taken out manually?

No, they looked pretty standard to me, does not look like an after market job.

I think they are from late 2012, just before they introduced DRL on the granturismo.

Came across them on ebay, I thought I bought the ones with DRL, and dealer told me that they weren't going to fit without some customised changes. But these ones were plug and play.

Here is a photo of the light.

They look great!! How did they set you back on ebay if you don't mind me asking?

Paid 1k for them, saw another pair for sale for the same price, but they were the latest model. I think they look better, especially with the maserati script inside the lights, but not sure about the cost to modify the pre-2013 lights to work with the DRL.
