Recharge or top up? The cans of gas the likes of Halfords sell use a legal loop hole to allow top up only and are environmentally dubious as it encourages the home mechanic to throw more environmentally damaging gas into a leaking system.

To do an actual recharge or find a leak you need specialist equipment at least a vacuum pump, recovery unit and set of gauges, plus the gas itself and you need to have the correct qualifications.

If you think you have a leak do the right thing and get a pro to do it.

When you say top up, you mean it is working but isn’t very efficient?

If it’s stopped working then you have a leak, so will need to get it fixed.

Its not ice cold but does cool
With you there Chris , Im getting really cheesed off with all this H and S re climate/blah blah , the UK having to be the one to set an example to the rest of the world BS, who mostly dont take the slightest bit of notice and continue to contribute to global situation. We end up paying 2/3 times for keeping to our un reachable targets whilst no body else cares ........... Just buy a can from halfords and if does the trick fine , ....if not go to a specialist

There is, I guess, the other matter of price. A qualified aircon check at Kwikfit is free, with a regas around £65. A bottle of gas (about 700 grams) is £60 plus the tool to connect it is £25. So doing it right is also cheaper.

Bought a STP bottle and coupler from motor factor! Both were £75 all in plus I get £10 back for returning the bottle.

Problem is I used it on my BMW which done the trick but it used the whole bottle!!

Think I might get another to do the GTS.

was that the one with or without the drone attack that closed it for some days

I guess it’s easier to remember the days it didn’t work than the days when it did.

I fully support people’s right to do things the more expensive, much crapper way, if that’s what they want.

Someone said to me once, if you give advice expecting it to be followed you will be disappointed at least 50% of the time. They were right, but I still sleep at night. :)

:argue1: your talking to one who has been preached at the last 30 years Zep , but spent a large part of that in Africa , and some time in China where I see fridges and freezers and cars get broken for spare parts ..........no one gives a toss mate .................but we take it so seriously , to the extent we get ripped off through legislation that is imposed , well to be honest im fed up with the younger generation being brainwashed into thinking we as in Britain/europe have to set an example to the world , slowly but surely our own economy and standard of living is going down whilst we are fooled that we set the highest example ..........we have been conned mate its poppycock unless we have a fair playing field and we all play by the same rules ...................meanwhile a drop test might have discovered if he had a leak or not ......which i presume he did

I’m sorry you feel like you have been preached at. I just don’t think it should be a race to the bottom, but you do you and I’ll do me.

As for a drop test, it’s pretty obvious that there is a leak if it takes 700 grams to “top up” a system that contains 750 grams. So now Chris gets to pay twice, because someone is making money out of selling a dream / nightmare.

Even cheaper if you get a wowcher voucher or another similar special offer...
