Need to repair my baby, went into a kerb and damaged front left wheel and scraped the bumper. Dealership estimate is £35k which sounds crazy to me. Would you go this route or go independent? I'm based in the NW, any advice appreciated. Thanks

Welcome. Don't know how far you are from Mario's at Autoshield but give him a call. Phil.

I second that, Marios will sort it for you, they do plenty of work like that, 0161 881 3463.

For a dinged wheel and a scraped bumper, £350 sounds steep never mind £3500!

Once you get an alternative quote, if you think the dealer was trying to take you for a ride, I'd certainly let Maserati UK know. They do seem to keep close tabs on dealers and this would be helping other owners near your dealer too.

Got any pictures of the damaged areas?

How hard did you hit the kerb? it really depends on how much damage we are talking about. At that price they must be expecting big trouble. if they are thinking of replacing the complete corner suspension, wing bumper and trimming and also checking and straightening the chassis and then checking corner weights and complete suspension re trim, it might get expensive. If you just clipped a kerb then you would need to be mad to accept that quote!

I think I've read somewhere that a Stradale bumper was £10k which seems obscene although it wouldn't surprise me, two Ceramic discs, a wheel, tyre, shock absorber, suspension etc, £35k seems not far off when it all comes together.

Ok so I went in to the kerb pretty **** hard (wet, downhill, couldn't brake). Exterior has a few scrapes, but the impact to the wheel was bad (the kerb tore half the alloy off).

One thing - I used Maserati Roadside to drop off at the dealership. I call them Monday morning and they say I owe £1500 for inspection/wrapping the bumper. I didn't ask them to do anything yet..is this normal practice??

Call Maserati HQ as they supply the roadside assistance as part of the warranty cover package. I believe Maserati use the same network as used for Alfa Romeo (cost sharing I suppose). I would have thought the costs for roadside recovery would be fully borne by the roadside cover.

Having now understood the circumstances better (you really should have shared the details up front if asking for views/help), the £35K is looking more plausible as it is not just about changing a bent wheel and patching up a bumper. My 'gut feel' is that if a dealer is saying £35K, you might save £5K-£8K going elsewhere to an independent (e.g. an independent may be more willing to try to vinyl repair the bumper up without wholesale replacement). However, being a high performance car, these things need to be tuned and adjusted to exact specifications by someone who really knows what they are doing. I must say, I would have to insist that only real experts got anywhere near my car - specially if involves suspension and geometry.

Good luck with this.

Think you are right Dicky..Remember Loz looking at a damaged Stradale and he mention the front bumper being stupid money.

I would be shocked, disturbed and disgusted if an MC Stradale front bumper cost £10K from a UK dealer. Formula Dynamics sell an entire MC Corsa carbon fibre bodykit for under £15K ! That includes carbon fibre bonnet, front bumper, front side panels, side skirts, rear bumper/diffuser and exhaust tips!!!!!

I'm afraid it sounds about right. I've heard the front bumper on a regular GTS is about 9k or so. Just looked on Eurospares and no price is listed, though. There are many things on these cars which are joyously cheap. Other things - front headlights, bumpers - the prices of which make you weep.

chedelic - very best of luck with this. Keep us posted.
