So, the SatNav in the GT. Some say it's OK, some say it's useless... I went to have a look at a GT today and tried to enter a postcode, but no luck. All it would let me do it enter a country, town and road. How the heck do you put in a postcode and is the Nav as bad as some say?

It's an old system and like many of its age you won't be entering a full postcode. It works fine though with good TMC reception. Just turn on your iPhone voice directions as well if it bothers you. The Bluetooth is **** mind!

How do you even enter a partial postcode? I couldn't fathom how to do that! Does it not have voice guidance?

You enter the post code in the town section and then it will offer you a list of roads followed by a list of numbers. And yes, it does have voice in the options menu.

And yes, this is all in the owners manuals!

Yeah but I ain't an owner - *yet*

But am seriously thinking about it. My Boxster gets sold on Tuesday and at that point I have all the cash to pick one up.

Not used my nav at all since getting the car.

Just use your phone and Waze. About as good as it gets for navigation and real time traffic, speed camera and road alerts (e.g. hidden police).

I was worried about the sat nav, and looked into aftermarket alternatives. Have to say once you get Used to it, it's not bad.
It's no where near as good as on other new cars- but who cares if it looks and sounds that good.

Seriously don't bother. Use your phone.

Use Waze. I don't understand why you would use the built in one that doesn't take into account traffic? Isn't that the whole point of using a satnav?

Waze is the way to go.

Mine does traffic alerts with re-routing as appropriate. Maybe this came on board with the facelift post 2013?

Don't get postcode entry anyway. I mean, why would you when you have the address which is, by definition, more accurate.....

Anyway, the Satnav works OK. I like the direction repeat on the dash binnacle. Voice prompts are fine. Still use Co-pilot though

No I don't, not one that I have put in anyway unless Maserati GB left theirs in

Interesting. Might be worth a look? I'll have a dig in the menus when I get home. There's definitely something in there about live traffic updates

Hmmm. Curious indeed. I shall try to recall what the setting is

C

When driving with the guidance switched on, you can hit the central button of the three hidden on the back of the steering wheel and it brings up a guidance menu with various options, one being traffic reports which when selected, allows you to read traffic messages. The map also show the route lined in red if there are delays.
So overall, it performs pretty well and not half as bad as some people say as far as I'm concerned.

I just use Waze now on my mobile, the voice comes through the Parrott, which is good, but no screen directions obviously. But I just love the way it guides me around jams. Does anyone have nice way of mounting an iphone in these cars?

Someone posted a few weeks ago, a device that slots into the air vents and holds a smart phone. I understand a few have tried it and are happy with it
