Sorry I know this has been done to death but confused after searching threads (new MC owner).

So what should I notice to exhaust note when sports mode pressed in auto and manual and above and below 3000 revs (or whatever the watershed level is) vs standard mode.

Cheers

P

PS epic car, even after at 996TT.

When you press the SPORTS button in any mode (auto or Manual) the valves on the exhaust will open, you can hear the metal screech as they open and then a much deeper sound. The different at 3k rpm when stationary and on the move is night and day difference. If you hear no difference then the valves are more than likely not opening fully or are stuck open all the time, they could need freeing off or the solenoid may have failed.

Well done on the car mate, I agree, EPIC cars.

Really Phil: If they screech, they need some lube. Mine don't screech at all. One of Blu's screeched only, and we could tell that was not opening properly

They have always done it and they always will according to Matt, I've asked him a few times to sort them and he says they are fine. It's not a loud screech just a reassuring metal ping sound.

Sorry, I thought that above 3,000 rpm sports valve on regardless so no difference to noise whether you are in sports or normal mode. In the case of mine, on the motorway cruising at 85mph (above 3,000 rpm) sports mode makes no difference to sound vs normal mode. Normal?

The valves are opened according to what the ECU decides. It's not binary, nor does the map appear to be documented anywhere. At some point I really want to get out in an MC with an endoscope so we can see what happens as throttle is depressed, load increases etc etc. It's the only way to know.
And that won't account for changes in the software because they felt like it :)

For an MC Shift, no.

You could probably strap an old go-pro near the valves and drive. I'll do it on the stradale for a laugh if someone else wants to do the comparison. I guess you would really want a second camera on the tacho, and then sync up the exhaust valve footage. Starting to get complicated!

Yep. I have an endoscope that I can use but it will only tell us if the valves open fully at 3k or not.

Had my solenoids replaced about 4 months ago, as stated about £40 for one and buttons to fit. I had exhaust valve issues this year but now everything works a treat and it's hugely noticeable in the exhaust note change even at stationary. Church quiet to glorious.

Now just stick an X pipe on it, don't ask questions just do it !!!

Sell it to me, whats the benefit / cost etc

As an aside, PDynamics have a switching kit for $150 for the GT MC which seems very good value and adds a degree of more valve control.

Easy fit? Reversible?

Took me a couple of hours being very careful, but that didn't include running the vacuum hose (which you won't have to do) you *will* need to run the cables, however, as my solenoid is mounted under the bonnet, whereas yours is at the back.

I think you can probably fit it in the boot, assuming there's a cable route.

Very easy to reverse. Just works. You can have it so it defaults open or closed. Not sure how that'll work with yours
