Hi!My 2005 Gransport developed a misfire earlier today, seems to be missing one cylinder. The car ran just fine on Sunday, but when i started it today it instantly misfired, anyone experienced this?First thing i thought of was coil(pack)but i guess the best place to start is on this forum.

Think you may be right but be cautious running it with a faulty one as it may put unburnt fuel into the cats

Indeed, unburnt fuel is the enemy of catalytic converters. An OBD reader will be able to point you in the right direction of a misfire.

Seems odd for it to happen suddenly. I'd start with checking the spark plugs and coil packs.

Thanks for the quick reply! No driving until it's fixed, are coils a common problem? Can i change the faulty one or do i need to change all of them(if that is the problem)?

Thank you all for your replies! Will check with an OBD, just went through the service records and it doesen't show any sparkplug changes at all:shocked:All services done by Maserati dealerships, so if you could tell me what plugs i should buy i would be very grateful. The car has 25000 miles on the clock.

I had the same thing recently and it was a plug (prev changed 5 years 16k before). Search for 'spark plug change' and that thread will answer your questions.

Good luck.

Good luck luck finding the cure. Btw, why not use a pic of your GS as an avatar? Seems a bit more appropriate than a 2002. Just a thought.

Thank you BennyD, you are absolutly right about the avatar, will do in the near future....but it's not a 2002, it's a 3.0si :)

I recently changed my plugs as I felt the car was hesitating slightly, she now has Denso Iridium plugs fitted and they seem to make a difference. I also fitted a new upgraded battery last week which makes the car run better than ever. These cars are very susceptible to weak electrics.

Thanks for the recommendation MAF,the battery is brand new but apparently the plugs are not...:)
I'll start with the plugs, hopefully that will sort things out.

Plugs sounds to be the possible culprit if the lovely dealers have never bothered to change them..!!

Took the plugs out to inspect them,no difference between them whatsoever. They all look healthy with a nice grey/brownish hue,but i didn't expect to see any big difference as the car hasn't run since i noticed the misfire. As i live at the end of the world i couldn't get hold of any new plugs today, but with a bit of luck they will arrive tomorrow.

Changed the plugs and the car ran perfect for 2 minutes, then the misfire came back. However it doesn't miss all the time, seems to run better when i rev it.No OBD check done yet but will do asap.My previous experience with coils are that they just die instantly,or can they go"on and off"???Any thoughts Gentlemen?
