Mine is now showing 54k and if you look them properly, I think they wear the miles very well. The interior is hard wearing and the paint is an excellent standard. Of course there will be stone chips and the odd curbed alloy over the years but it's to be expected. They should be used as often as possible in my opinion, it brings a smile to my face every time

I disagree and agree. It depends on what you have. My 4200 with 13k miles in almost as new condition would devalue if driven more than I do. Also if not stored & looked after as it is.

I agree with Ewan in that if I had bought the 1st 4200 as a higher miler lesser condition example I would certainly be using her more. There won't be many nice low miles low owners facelift 4200's left in years to come so I'm doing my bit to preserve one.

However it is half the reason I bought the 2nd 4200 as I can worry less about it and drive/enjoy a fantastic car much more.

I agree, life is just too short to miss an opportunity to smile for a hopeful buck or two in the future. Although I think all these cars if kept in good condition and lowish miles will rise in value, I do not believe they will ever increase in value like a comparative fezzer.

But how much increase in value are we talking about? Maybe £10k over 10 years?

Personally I would just use it and be happy that it will probably be valued at the same value I purchased it but with a lot more miles on it. Therefore having almost free motoring.

Is that little extra profit really going to make that much difference?

I manage to do 4K in my Noble and 6k in my GTS every year!

My sentiments also. Use it, and hopefully get back near to what I paid, that's what I have done with all my previous "toys", although I'm keeping mine now.

The knock on effect of the Fezza's & other classic marques will push the Maser's north for sure.

No reason why we shouldn't be seeing MCV's at £75-£100k in 10-15 years and decent GS's & facelift 4200's north of £50k.

I don't have enough spare time to drive mine more anyway so I'm not faced with situations that I don't use the car when I want to. I see no need to use it for any daily work as it doesnt make sense. That is what the XC90 is for.

In 5 1/2 years I had mine I did over 43,000 Like any vehicle I own driven on the ragged edge the whole time unless it was in a traffic jam. Use it or loose it (I still managed to loose it!). I'm sure whatever I get will be treated to the same love and care :D

I still remember the sighting lap you took me round at brunty 2 years ago Newton, ragged edge does not begin to describe it! ;)

What a sad read.

When we are too old/ill to drive will we look back and say..."Glad I got an extra few K for that Maserati I had that was then spent on a holiday/daily runner/part of the kitchen etc"....or "thank god I was able to enjoy that car when I had it rather than just look at it and wash it"

We all buy a Maserati because we want one. When we then own it, it's up to us how we wish to use it. Some of us want a daily driver, some a car to use half the week, some a once a week car, some 3 times a year. I know one gentleman who thinks they're art and all he does is have a cigar in his garage and look at it, never drives it. We are all 'different' which is why we buy a Maserati, just be tolerant and let everyone have their car for their most important purpose, they make us happy.

Why is it a sad read? We all enjoy things including Maserati's in different ways. It isn't just your way or the highway.

A Maserati can be enjoyed just as much looking it as washing/polishing it as driving it. It is the whole ownership thing for me that is special. It is not just about driving it. This may be controversial but out of the 4200's/GS's/QP's I have driven none of them are class leading. The are great cars but in every category there a better 'drivers' cars I would choose above most Maser's. If it was all about driving I wouldn't have chosen one.

I have had plenty of cars or varying types & driven plenty of others I haven't owned. They are many that have been better to drive.

Each to their own and that is what makes us all different. Maybe you should open you mind to the possibility that driving the car isn't the whole be all & end all of the ownership of a car.

Agreed Dicky. I spend probably as much time looking at as driving it and enjoy it all the same. I agree about the art thing. It is a beautiful thing to look at & if I could afford it & had the space it would certainly be possible to be a static sculpture in my garage.

Totally agree.
This Giugiaro design is the very best one he ever created, a piece of art indeed.

Just finished stone chip respray and detailing.....it's looking even more georgeous now and indeed, just knowing its there, in the garage, just being soooo damned pretty, makes me happy.
Last year it did not drive at all due to several circumstances, but it was still there..
I only drive the car for a fun blast around the country near the village I live, never use it for (long) boring heavy traffic/ highway trips.
But to be honest, all in all i spend more time cleaning and polishing, then driving.
For me, just owning this type of Maser, is a delight in itself.
As is stated before, I think the main reason these cars are keeping or even growing value, is due to the fact that a lot of owners start realizing these cars are exotic and unique enough to just......hold on to!

Fine to read but so so wrong in practice

Phew. I was beginning to think I was the only one. I'll do that number of miles easily and the money spent on enjoying them will be money well spent.
