Just had a week away in the north, found these two gems:

M74 Junction 12 / 13 / 14

B7078 - B740 Crawfordjohn to Crawick...... Brilliant drive, did this at 2 degC and with snow flurries, but really great fun in fabulous scenery.

A76 - B797 Mennock to Leadhills, then B7040 to Elvanfoot, then back on to M74 / A74M.....Again a good drive, done in 2 degC but brilliant scenery and quiet roads.

Loads of bends, cambers and switch-backs, very quiet roads, makesure you don't have an event because there is nothing out there for miles, just hills, rivers and sheep, so take tyre weld and plenty of fuel.

Cheers

Talking of good roads, Does anyone know a good route from North London to the Chunnel? I'm off for a run across the north of France in May and would like to start the journey in style rather than a pootle down the motorway / dual carriage way the whole distance...

Will no doubt pass you Chris..........going over on the 26th a Sunday early am .......;)...but not intending to dawdle...prefer to do that on other side.....where the motorist is still king....ok...maybe a prince.........ok....well maybe a minor duke....;)

Hi Chaps,
I decided as the weather was going to be potentially poor, that I would take the 4200, the 3200 has no ICE mode and loads of grunt on the rear. When we took the 3200 to France in the blizzards, it was tricky to keep in a straight line, the tail was so happy in the snow. Mind you I took the AC out yesterday for a quick run and it still make me smile, so nimble and fast, a different drive to the 4200.

Cheers

Belated thanks, Safrane. I'll check that one out.

I'll be getting a 10am train on the 26th, so I'll give myself plenty of time to get there and an early start sounds good. If you're getting a similar train, maybe grab a coffee, P? If not, I'll listen for you howling past me : )

Hey Nikos,
Yes it's great when we fire them both up together, sounds like an orchestra. I have used the ICE mode in the 4200 as it gives shorter shifts on the CC box and if the surface is really slippy it does help a bit.

Must admit, I'm not intending to dawdle myself, just don't want to do it in a straight line all the way down the m-way. Interesting A-roads sounds like much more fun, and hopefully going against the traffic most of the way and nice & early should be good.

On the other side, I'm heading across the north of France toward Nantes. Usually do the whole journey door-to-door in a day using the toll roads, but I'm thinking to take a couple of days and stop over somewhere, trying to avoid the bigger roads & towns. Must remember to take my ermine cloak
: )
