Gravel clanging under car

Hi all,

Just a quick question. On my GT Sport if I drive over any kind of gravel/stones on the road I can hear quite a lot of clanging and rattling as I drive along. More than any other car I have owned. I have no idea why its so bloody loud especially given the wheel arches have a felt carpet all along the inside. The felt though is poorly fitted with gaps at the bottom where a lot of pebbles seem to accumulate but those small gaps cant be the entire issue as the sound is all around on the underneath of the car.

Is this normal? Its the Granturismo just poorly insulated at the bottom? All thoughts appreciated!

Thanks

I've noticed this after driving poor surfaced roads but have put it down to the wide surface and relatively softer compound of the tyres. Especially when warm they will pick up every loose chipping they touch.
I also suspect I am more protective of the Maserati (3200 in my case) than the other cars I drive so probably pay more attention to it happening.
That's my take on it but there could well be more to it.

Normal, its all that exhaust you have under the car, stones on stainless does make a right old ping.

Ok thanks both of you. Makes a lot of sense - i'm probably over sensitive about the car + its a clangy beast anyway !
