Ah sorry one more query! Is the judder on start up normal? I seem to recall this on my previous one as well, where it almost feels underpowered or as if it is going to stall for the first few minutes when getting off the driveway!

Great news...I think you have a great buy there and sounds like you are smitten.......I will let the GT owners answer your questions but well done and enjoy..and don't forget to get some pictures up when you get time...

Thanks mate! Will do it as soon as the sun comes out, which in Manchester could be a long wait......

Will miss the 640d which is a fantastic car, but I am sure it'll soon be forgotten!

It was indeed. Pretty much this;

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...rlynew,new/radius/1500/colour/white?logcode=p

A really fantastic car, couldn't speak highly enough of it. Road presence, comfortable, power on demand, loads of tech, economical. Good looking too, it turns a lot of heads. Plus a heck of a lot of car for the money, the fact the 12 plate m-sports are almost starting with a 2 is incredible.

It was mildly pointless me having it as it sits on the drive all week, I got mine in June and did 1400 miles before part exchanging for the Maserati (and taking a nice big hit in depreciation regardless of my minimal mileage!!). I get the train to work so only need a weekend car hence wanting something a bit more fun/V8ish, however if I was driving daily or doing a lot of business miles the 640d would offer everything I could want in a car. Even tried talking the missus into taking it off me to keep it in the family haha!

Hello chaps. Well today was the day and the timing has certainly made it feel like a Christmas present!

I made the long drive up to Glasgow which was definitely worthwhile. It took a little longer than expected as BMW sent it to Maserati to fit a new instrument cluster and new suspension bushes which I was happy with them paying for - both bits that were picked up on the health check and covered by BMW for me. 12 hours labour at 140 p/hour......grim!

The weather has been brutal and it has been dark since I got back, but delighted to have finally picked the beast up. Now that I have it it has finally sunk in what a great deal I got, in fact my contact at Maserati in Nottingham has informed me he would retail this specific car at over £10k more than I paid for it.....Will get some pics up as soon as the weather permits!

Couple of questions/observations if anyone would be so kind to help out;

1. Can music be streamed via bluetooth? If not it appears I have an aux and a USB input, the USB doesn't connect to my iPhone 4 to allow music to be played, am I missing something here? Perhaps I need some super expensive Maserati cable instead of a usual USB to iPhone one :blushed:

2. I have a squeak in the steering wheel, guessing it just needs some lubricant? I am assuming any garage can do this, or am I best going to Maserati themselves?

3. The health check picked up a dead cell in the battery, does this mean I need a new battery or do I just ignore?

4. The noise is better than I remembered, especially those downshifts in MC Shift mode. Wow. Going up a gear to go down one is definitely the way forward :-D

5. The car seems a little tail happy in the wet, there are a couple of times I have put my foot down and instantly regretted it haha. Can it be floored in the dry, is this usual for it to react this way in the wet? Stupid question perhaps, but something I simply didnt experience in the 640d as it never tempted me to floor it and my previous Maserati experience was in summer time!

6. Petrol. Ouch.

Thanks in advance guys!

Hi smg800

You cannot bluetooth stream music in the GTS with the standard kit amd I believe you will need the special Maserati cable to connect your iPhone for music.

For the steering wheel squeak, I'd recommned you pop it in to Autoshield Maserati in Chorlton and let Marios and his team have a look at it for you. I would strongly recommend them for any future issues you have.

These cars can devour batteries, and if you are going to leave it for any period of time between uses, I would both swap out the existing battery and buy a Ctek battery conditioner.

The noise is awesome and they are a little tail happy in th wet, all normal and part of the fun of driving these cars.
With petrol heading towards £1/litre, it's a good time to be driving these cars!

Agree with all the above.

RWC did not realise you had sold the Ghibli S. What's the story with the QP, age, spec etc?

Steering wheel squeak: almost certainly entirely normal. "That's just what they do", said Lancaster when I asked about mine doing that. It's just the steering column squeaking on one of its bushes. Apparently a dab of light oil will fix it, but never forever. Still, worth getting checked properly, though.

Juddery on start-up: do you mean that the car lurches in a really alarming way such that manoeuvring is perilous and terrifying? There is a fix: ignition on, slowly press the accelerator to the floor three or four times, then start. Et voila! Nine times out of ten things will be a lot less hairy.

Glad you like the car.

You need the special Maserati lead to get any Apple device working. And then can only be the larger 32 pin type not the Lightning type connector.

Bluetooth will not work. It does not support it.

With regards to the judder on startup I don't get this at all.

Looks like you got a fantastic deal. Well done.

I really liked the Ghibli S, but a combination of a few ongoing niggling little issues with it, an unsated desire for a QP GTS, and a very good part-ex deal offered on a very low mileage 2011 car in the right spec, made it a no-brainer to swap. No regrets, it's an epic car that makes an incredible noise. It's black on black, late 2011 with 11k miles on it. It is utterly unmarked, like a brand new car.

....and not replaceable unlike the Ghibli. The new cars are plastic, more mainstream and bland to look at. They are fine versus their peer group but the older V8 cars like yours and mine are more special IMHO.

I think the new cars are better than most people think, and will be respected over time when they are better sorted and, particularly when more high performance derivatives come along. But I can't disagree that there is something extra special about the NA V8 cars and their build quality.

Mine squeaked intermittently for about the first month of ownership. Seemed to come from just behind the Maserati badge in the centre of the steering wheel. Only happened when the wheel was turned and even happened mid corner when not moving the steering wheel. I was going to get it looked at but then it stopped doing it. Good to know that others think it's a feature

Personally, I'd not bother with the iPhone connector. Get yourself a USB stick and copy your music onto there. If you get something small like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-Digital-64GB-DataTraveler-DTMCK/dp/B00C6GLF78 then it doesn't get in the way. Alternatively copy the USB music to the Jukebox but beware it takes time and has a few problems - see a previous post of mine about copying to the jukebox

Thanks for the help here! Think I will go for the USB pen option for now and see how I get on. In fairness the noise of the exhaust is enough to keep me satisfied so the stereo isn't a major issue. As an aside the sound quality is woeful for what is supposedly an upgraded system. The standard stereo in the current 6 series blows the Maserati Bose away. However the Maserati exhaust blows anything else away so all is forgiven :)

Will check out Autoshield if the squeak persists. I am going to be driving solely on weekends so I probably ought to address this battery lark pretty swiftly!

Just filled up with Shell's premium offering which was only about £1.20 which was a pleasant surprise! I had to stop for fuel on the motorway back from Glasgow and BP's equivalent at service station prices was £1.55 or something. Scandalous.

Haha perilous and terrifying is a good description. Oddly this solution you've suggested works. Now if anyone can explain why I would love to know....

Thanks for the help!

Thanks EXCF350. I think I have a little USB stick knocking around the house somewhere so will get on the case! Typically I am more interested in the exhaust note than music as it is a beautiful sound, but I miss my pre gym tracks en route for a work out.

I have an old iPod mini. I just load all my songs up to that and leave it plugged in. Works wonderfully.

With regard to the sound system?? What is wrong with it? I think it is wonderful! Have you tried adjusting the bass and treble? Note that you have to adjust it for every input! One setting does not control everything.

It is definitely better than any of my other cars. Mind you they aren't BMWs or Mercs.

You don't have to press the accelerator. Just turn on the car and wait for about 3 seconds so the majority of dash lights go out then start the car. It needs time to prime everything measure the clutch wear and reset the clutch.

It does this every time you start the car.
