Granturismo - Opinions and advice sought...

So... been off the forum for a while... doing some work for a change.. Having flirted with the idea of flogging the beast, the feeling has now past and I had resolved to keep it. Mainly on the basis that I still haven't seen anything else I like as much - but also because I think that it may be one of the last of it's kind.... (opinions welcome) It's a GT Sport Auto 2012... with the mcshift software and the extra hp.... in pretty minty order and I've had no issues with it..

So... still putting miles on it (35k now).. mainly motorway trips to see the kids at university, in the frozen north.. but the odd day out with the Mrs.. and business meetings too - when I need to distract clients from the fact that I'm talking ******** most of the time and divert the conversation to cars..

Pampered it a bit with a full detailing - inside and out... and an IGL Kenzo coating.... with very satisfactory results.... (thoughts on this welcome)

Thought about extending the extended warranty ... but at this point Maserati only offer warranty on the Drive Train... and It costs ... (£3928 for another 24 months.. quote)..

Grilling the dealers, it seems that they hardly ever develop drivetrain probs that are substantial - so I was minded to let the warranty lapse..... (wha'dya think ?)

Then... Horrors... an issue with the transmission.... I nearly always drive on the paddles...not too aggressively .. but occasionally I give it some beans....Notice a few unanswered changes ... 2-3 and 3-4 .. low revs, low speeds... And also some unrequested change downs, with accompanying high revs... basically and indecisive auto box...Less noticeable was that it was doing the same thing in full Auto mode too, don't use that so much...
Only recent - and very occasional .. both Hot and Cold running...

Got worse... quite quickly, seeming brough on by pulling away (gently) at junctions ... culminating in the Red Transmission light coming on paddle shift becoming unavailable and "Go to Dealer" being displayed.... Clears on a restart - only to return rapidly...and after a few times was accompanied by the orange "caned to buggery" - check engine light...

I was quite close to Marranellos at the time it appeared, so called them.. "It's not a while you wait thing, sir. we can recover it - but we are pretty booked up at the mo... so it may be a whole before we can look at it".... Therefore, I had it recovered by Maserati assistance under warranty to Dick Lovett... (they arranged all that ... decent)

I'm waiting to hear with a diagnosis... (any guesses as to what I might expect ?)...

It is due a service and MOT in mid October and was due in with them anyway then... and I wanted them to give it a proper going over as the warranty expires then too.... having pretty much decided not to extend further..

But... what do I do now ?... If this is not a cut and dried diagnosis and solution (and it often isn't), then I run the risk of the issue returning post expiry... and what then..? Right now I'm pressing them to get it back to me fixed, fast - so I've got a month or so to drive it (some decent trips planned) and can then take a more informed view on the warranty, before returning it to them for the MOT / Service etc.....

What would you do ?..

When did the warranty lapse? If it was only a month or so ago I'd be inclined to let them prove that the fault wasn't there a month ago. If it's not lapsed then it's covered anyway so no issues.

Sounds like an actuator on the transmission to me but putting it on the diagnostic and running the program will soon determine what the issue is.

Aloha! You've surfaced! Sorry it's in such unfortunate circumstances. I hope it's an easy and reliable fix as the car's georgeous

From your post your current warranty has not expired so no issue.

Even if it is no fault found for now then you have it on record the fault existed within warranty. Seems to me they should find something not behaving as it should though.

Yes as others have said. I had a similar issue with a sat nav unit on mine. I reported the fault the day before the warranty was up. They honored this (or will when the frigging part arrives!)..
As for the extension, that's a **** of a lot...!

Get it fixed under Warranty then call Warranty Wise and get quotes for Warranty Extension. Or sell it after it is fixed and reduce your blood pressure.

I found that warranty wise, and a few other third party providers were as expensive or even more than the main dealer.

Just to be clear... warranty not yet expired ... so happy days...

Had a quote from warranty wise... not really any different £'s wise... and they do hound you if you contact them... but tbh I've had 3 Maserati now and I'm pretty happy with the reliability of them, I don't stress my cars especially, always fairly economical on tyres and brakes etc and even if I did have a bit of bad luck.. it wouldn't kill me financially..

So ... I'm inclined to take a punt without a warranty ..

No.. the real dilemma is assuming the diligent people at Dick Love-it diagnose ... "It's yer semi wobble dribble drabbit, and we've replaced that, so it'll be fine"... and it is...
At least 'till just the other side of the warranty expiry, and we then discover further work is required... Where do you think I stand with a claim ?

Don't really want to be selling it... I'm not superstitious and the "cost to change" is a factor unless I'm really motivated by what I'd be getting into.. (then of course it goes out the window)... and I can't afford a Ferrari Berlinetta AND a divorce...... So I think i'll be staying put with it - at least for a while...

Oh.. and by the way Eb.... you missed my gig !... which was an absolute tour de force in front of 350 very drunk and appreciative friends ... Though the whole 2 and a half hours can be relived shortly on you tube it doesn't really do justice to a blistering hot evening in a sweaty night club with the crowd reaching "Peak Proseco" as we blasted our way through The Cults "she Sells Sanctuary"...

There may be plans for another next year....

Now that you've had a bit of practice - you might be worth seeing! :) Not that I am aware of a musical ensemble callng themselves "The Cult"....!
Sorry I missed it - life got in the way.

Well I never. it. Was part of my life when I was a youth. Have Cult on my iPod actually!
Top tunes, amongst some other dubious stuff!

Welcome back. I presumed you had sold up and moved on.

Personally I would let the warranty fix the car, get it serviced and check just before the warranty expires, don't extend the warranty and keep enjoying the car and life.

As a Northener who used to live in Berks I am distressed at your 'grim up north' suggestions.......

To be fair, Eb, if you are of anything like similar age I'd be very surprised if you didn't recognise a couple of Cult tracks. Of course, you might not know them as the Cult :)

I think that's going to be the plan... Provided I get a definitive diagnosis from Dick Lovett ... who have yet to report in... If it turns out to be in any way uncertain I might well extend the warranty..

Actually, .. loving the trips up North... Cost centre 1 is in Durham.. and a treat to visit... Really liked Newcastle on a recent trip too.. M1 and A1m invariably painful though..

Cost Centre 2 is in North Wales ... always stunning and have family still up there too...A55 with all those tunnels was made for a Maserati...

We could always play something you know Eb... But right now the repertoire does not extend to ABBA or Elton John...
