So... been off the forum for a while... doing some work for a change.. Having flirted with the idea of flogging the beast, the feeling has now past and I had resolved to keep it. Mainly on the basis that I still haven't seen anything else I like as much - but also because I think that it may be one of the last of it's kind.... (opinions welcome) It's a GT Sport Auto 2012... with the mcshift software and the extra hp.... in pretty minty order and I've had no issues with it..
So... still putting miles on it (35k now).. mainly motorway trips to see the kids at university, in the frozen north.. but the odd day out with the Mrs.. and business meetings too - when I need to distract clients from the fact that I'm talking ******** most of the time and divert the conversation to cars..
Pampered it a bit with a full detailing - inside and out... and an IGL Kenzo coating.... with very satisfactory results.... (thoughts on this welcome)
Thought about extending the extended warranty ... but at this point Maserati only offer warranty on the Drive Train... and It costs ... (£3928 for another 24 months.. quote)..
Grilling the dealers, it seems that they hardly ever develop drivetrain probs that are substantial - so I was minded to let the warranty lapse..... (wha'dya think ?)
Then... Horrors... an issue with the transmission.... I nearly always drive on the paddles...not too aggressively .. but occasionally I give it some beans....Notice a few unanswered changes ... 2-3 and 3-4 .. low revs, low speeds... And also some unrequested change downs, with accompanying high revs... basically and indecisive auto box...Less noticeable was that it was doing the same thing in full Auto mode too, don't use that so much...
Only recent - and very occasional .. both Hot and Cold running...
Got worse... quite quickly, seeming brough on by pulling away (gently) at junctions ... culminating in the Red Transmission light coming on paddle shift becoming unavailable and "Go to Dealer" being displayed.... Clears on a restart - only to return rapidly...and after a few times was accompanied by the orange "caned to buggery" - check engine light...
I was quite close to Marranellos at the time it appeared, so called them.. "It's not a while you wait thing, sir. we can recover it - but we are pretty booked up at the mo... so it may be a whole before we can look at it".... Therefore, I had it recovered by Maserati assistance under warranty to Dick Lovett... (they arranged all that ... decent)
I'm waiting to hear with a diagnosis... (any guesses as to what I might expect ?)...
It is due a service and MOT in mid October and was due in with them anyway then... and I wanted them to give it a proper going over as the warranty expires then too.... having pretty much decided not to extend further..
But... what do I do now ?... If this is not a cut and dried diagnosis and solution (and it often isn't), then I run the risk of the issue returning post expiry... and what then..? Right now I'm pressing them to get it back to me fixed, fast - so I've got a month or so to drive it (some decent trips planned) and can then take a more informed view on the warranty, before returning it to them for the MOT / Service etc.....
What would you do ?..
