Granturismo excess mileage cost

My annual mileage is normally about 8000 which already seems to be at the top end of normal use, but recently I've been doing over 400 miles per week due to working in Manchester. The cheaper option is for me to use the Mito or Ranger but I prefer to use the GT as it's made for the winding A roads of the Scottish Borders and wafting down the M6.

So how much am I losing in depreciation by doing these extra miles in the GT? If I keep using it for the commute it'll add about 3000 miles by the end of the contract.

Does anyone have an idea of depreciation cost per 1000 miles?

Whatever the cost, I'm sure the man-maths will be able to justify it!

It's about £150-200 per thousand miles I reckon but it really is only an issue if the mileage gets silly.

Keep using it BTW. Shame we did not get to speak at Cupar but I admired your car - BF really works.

Thanks Bob, I thought you'd have an idea.

Yes, it was a shame we missed each other at Cupar, I was hoping to say hello. I noticed you'd arrived but we joined the chaos of the cafe for lunch and as we came out I saw you driving away!

You ask about the impact on the 'contract' - does your contract not tell you the cosp per mile excess?

The contract is the work in Manchester. The car is not on a contract. Sorry for the confusion - I could have worded it better.

I thing Richard Grace should be able to give you a trades point of view but I think £1,000 per 5k on the car until it reaches 40/50k in total then the fall is less.

Yep, we had to go and collect one of the cost centres from a sleep over. Really enjoyed seeing all the Alfas and was pleased to come away having spent nothing!

By the use of the term contract - us the car leased ?? If so you will have an excessive milage charge figure quoted in your paperwork, probably about 20p mile ..??

I assume it is a relatively new car ??

Many years a go I had a brand new 911 (2005) in the first year I did 13k miles in the first 11 months and sold it for about £4k less than an equivalent 8k miler would be...

As long as its not silly miles 20k plus a year in the first couple years, what you will probably find is the cost per mile drops - so the more miles you do the cheaper it is (don't you just love man maths)

.....I spent near 4 years commuting from a Manchester to Hertfordshire (not as nice a jouney as yours) and found you couldn't beat a golf GTI (right blend of country road blaster, comfort, fuel economy, reliability and motorway cruiser...I did 110k miles on it and it cost me about £9k in deprecation plus £6k in consumables and maintenance)

The car isn't leased, the "contract" was in reference to my work in Manchester.
One other cost will be to increase the mileage on my insurance - currently it's for 10,000 miles per year. I'll either have to stop using the car so much for the next month or get that increased!
