love these tribal battles. Truth it is impossible to compare these cars using all of the criteria a real owner would use to make the decision. On paper the 911 is probably the better car and would almost certainly take a daily pounding better than the maser. However it's horses for courses as some like the anonymity of the 911 whilst enjoying a great drive, whilst others enjoy the drama and event of a maser. When I had the option for 2.5 years, I loved both (although not a GS) for different reasons. Both cars should be respected for what they do even if they do what they do in completely different ways!

I was looking at 997 C4S before going with the GS. They are pretty much equal in a straight line, but on a track the Porsche will do the quicker lap. It really is an everyday car, it is so useable, even in the winter. That was one of the things that put me off. I us my car as a weekend toy, so it still feels special.
One of my friends did go for the C4S, and has used it everyday. He admits it doesn't feel as special as when he bought it, and now I've stuck Larini's on mine he's decided he needs something a bit louder. That said, he bought it 3 years ago for 33k, and is about to put it back up for sale at 32k. So 3 years of motoring (everyday) for 1k - not to be sniffed at.

The retail price for my 997 GTS, seems to have gone up by £2-3k even though I have had it for 2+ years and added 8k miles. Doesn't feel as special as a Maserati at lower speeds, but just gets better and better the harder it is driven. Definitely doesn't suit everyone!
