Hi Stewart. Yes, it's mine. It's a 2009 MC Shift. A clean and polished Alfieri almost has a bluey tinge, which I really like. The stripes are a the result of a steady (ish) hand and enamel paint. Interior is black with contrast ivory stitching, half-leather, half-Alcantara. The wheels are grey but a touch darker than standard. They'll need re-furbing in the new year and I may go just a touch darker again.

These are - 20" neptune grigio mercury. - specified wheels which look rather anthracite similar to my porsche wheels in colour which I love. Yours looks awesome and now Ive seen your picture I love the colour.

Those stripes are a touch of genius - beautiful job. Nice plate too, but do you always park like that to use the ATM in your town?

Morning All

Having got up at 4.00 clock yesterday and drove to Glasgow in the worst weather ever then in a weeks time I will be begging my wife for forgiveness and poor but going to be smiling rather a lot...

Few questions before I part with a lot of cash.

1. The car is lovely - some of the MC Shifts Ive seen have a red stripe on the trident on the front, this didn't. Is that something as option or that people do ?

2.The car has extended warranty until March 2015 and will come with a fresh MOT and some tax, but will require a service in March next year as well as last one was 2.5K miles ago in 2013, this will be its 3rd service so am I right in thinking that I get the service done before the warranty pops then if anything astray do under warranty ? and this will be a small service as the third one?
(then extend the warranty using a 3rd party as year 6)

3.When I pick her up, what do I need to test and do a walk around - Bluetooth, audio, headlights, etc.

4.Financially - Im paying bank transfer, once Ive seen the HPI check to state all debt paid off and car is clear. - Anything else I need to do ?

5. Its gone into GreyPaul at Edinburgh for squeaking windows and parking sensor plays up, comes on for no reason every now and again. Anything else I could get them to check whilst in ?

I know sounds anal, Ive not parted with this amount of money before and want to make sure its all good and not missing anything..

The car is lovely, has some small scratches on drivers sound near the bottom of wheel arch looks like stone chips but as it was so wet couldnt fully inspect the paint, interior wise has the comfort pack, BLUETOOTH + USB INPUT(+AUX-IN), navtrack, cruise control etc. It doesn't have BOSE, anything else I should check or should have ?

Driving her

Yes i drove like miss daisy as so wet and the box in auto is a bit odd, mc shift couldn't really utilise as so wet but she cruises like a beast and that sound... yes that sound is to die for....love the driving position, take some time to get used to the pedals couldn't find the brake !!! but oh so lovely indeed.

Im smitten and can't wait, here are some poor pics....

If you've got a warranty then I think you're reasonably safe... still haven't found anyone who's had any major issues with these..

If it were me I'd be checking the electricals so far as I could... and I'd be anal about bodywork... check gaps... open bonnet and boot and look at the less tidy joints.. Should be no signed of any leaks of any kind .. I'd expect to be able to eat my lunch off the engine..
And the interior.. any signs of wear or damage..
If ever there is a need for a warranty claim, either these aren't covered - or it leads to dispute as to what was or wasn't etc..

Other than that ... looks a great car...

Oh... and don't ever bother with the auto switch...esp in bad weather... pretty sure no-one else ever touches theirs.. and when I had my cambiocorsa it was only ever used by the Mrs...

Good luck..

1) I have never seen an MC shift without the red stripe badges. As far as I know these are there to distinguish the 4.7 MC shift from the automatic version red being the "I have more power" colour. Could be a simple thing such as personal choice with the current owner changing the badges (weird and I can't see why anyone would do this but I have seen people badge an M5 a 520d!) or it may well have been involved in a shunt - check carefully as it should have the red stripe badges.

2) There will be no Tax on the vehicle so please factor that additional £260 or £500 in to your budget. From 1st October Tax is not transferable to the new owner. Yes the 3rd service is a basic one - the big one is in year 4.

3) As you would with any car, check tyres, panel gaps, check for any paint bubbles around edges and also check all lights are working and the big one is the air con - a must check! My Aux connection seems lose so get them to check yours - mine goes off for no apparent reason.

4) You can pay by Bank Transfer when you go to pick the car up - it's usually instant depending on the bank you are with - limits here: http://www.fasterpayments.org.uk/consumers/transaction-limits

5) Get them to give you a clutch life reading. The squeeky windows are due to mis-alignment - should be an easy fix and the parking sensors are known to go wrong on these so no worries there. I'd also check the condition of the battery too.

6) Enjoy the **** out of her when you get it - these are amazing cars :)

Good luck hope this helps.

Always best to get a service & MOT done before a warranty expires. Can't recall it's age/miles but year 4 is the big service so check what was done if that was the last service as some people to a reduced service which could invalidate the Maserati extended warranty.

Thanks MCS

Yep its the red stripe that niggles me as in was that an option ? Ive asked the garage to check with the dealer and to do battery/clutch tests also to see what was done at the 13k service.

Also yep re lights and electronics asked them to do a check before goes dealer, as Ill do a walk around when pick her up and will check everything is working correctly.

Assume if had slight bump at front it won't be registered anywhere ?

It's correct that the 4.7 MC has the red badge and the 4.7 Auto does not (without buying the Red Esse or, later, Sports pack) but Maserati has been known to make simple mistakes at the factory of this sort and it's possible that the badge was replaced with the incorrect one after the old one was stolen. Does not have to be a big story but worth looking into. Just ring up Douglas at Graypaul in Edinburgh as he is very helpful.

Cool thanks, got the dealer checking with Douglas as it was him that sold the car originally. History is that Greypaul supplied from new to a customer, who then traded it back in and the dealer bought from them directly.

Assume the badge isn't under warranty :) and costs a fortune to get the correct one.

Personally I would focus on the bigger things but...
