I have a few quid from my birthday burning a hole in my pocket and am considering getting one of these.

It will be used for mounting to the exterior of a car and am confused as to which one of the many models I should get.

Can I have your thoughts and what you think the faults with models are?

I know Dan has one but it seemed a bit of a faf as you had to stop and start it manually and you could not review the footage without a laptop?

Maybe a different make? What would be good is if you could view and publish the footage on an iPhone?

Advice please...

I'm also desperate to have one, but if there is one that can be controlled remotely and iPhone compatible I'd love to know. Seriously want one of the drones that someone on here showed the cooling tower footage on a few weeks ago.

I have been doing sone digging and there is an app you can control and preview/review your footage.

It works on the Hero 3. Also works on the hero 2 but you need a wifi pack.

Looking at the Hero 3 there is black, silver and white models. All basically the same but the black has stereo sound and 12mp stills £300, the silver mono sound and 11mp stills £250 and the white 5mp and mono £200. You will also need a suction cup mount for around £30.

You know a lot more than I do, cleverly priced by the looks of it to make you fork out for the top of the range.

They are excellent bits of kit.....wireless remote now too....well worth getting especially if you can get a remote mic as well.
Cheers Wattie

Wattie, how does the suction cup work?...I mean, I would not want 300 quids worth of my kit falling off and the guy behind me running it over!

This is interesting:

Conclusion, the sound it much clearer and suffers less wind noise on the Hero 3 Black so feel it is worth the extra money.

The app, looks amazing:

You dont need the wifi back pack on the Hero 3 as its built in. The only shortfall I can see is that you cant watch the videos on you smartphone, download them and publish them direct to YouTube.

There is another bit of free software: http://gopro.com/software-app/cineform-studio

Its for mac or pc for editing and updating your GP. Hopefully in time, an app will come along to do this on mobile devices.

I am now sold on the GP Hero 3 Black with suction cup.

View attachment 14496

RRP price: £350 from the hight street such as Argos

Online price can be had for just under £300, add the suction cup (£30) and take the vat off, its £260, very reasonable.

My mate has a Hero 2 with the wifi pack, so controlled from his iPad. Very cool.
Just worth check about the Hero 3 before buying, I have heard issues with the firmware (might be sorted now) and also the battery life being very short compared to the Hero 2?...

I have the original GoPro Hero HD and, though it's quite "interesting" to change the settings, the footage pretty much speaks for itself. The fact that you see them used so much in commercial TV, makes it clear to me that there's little in the way of competition.

I was nervous at first as thoughts of it flying off were there......it was rock solid and after a few uses I never gave it a second thought. Used mine on the front right Atom wheel arch facing backwards at a speed in excess of ***mph with no worries on several occasions.
cheers Wattie

Off to Argos to pick one up today.

I got the go pro hero something to record a hi speed run over the millou bridge. I comes with loads of mounting devices for all sorts of situations.
the only 2 problems i found was that the switch it on button was at the front of the camera , which when its mounted on the dash you have to be double jointed to switch it on and you just have to assume that it has come on, couple of times it hadn't.
2nd problem was, the millou bridge was jam packed and my high speed run was at 40mph......bummer eh?
i haven't used it since. if any one wants it send me a pm.
