It is certainly a very, very capable car Ewan....I get its hard to get over paying 60 plus k for an Alfa 4 door.

Agreed and it performed admirably on Top Gear last week but that is a lot of cash as you say for what it is. I can see the depreciation being crazy on this.;

My brother in law has a Jag XJ Supersport Suoercharged and it cost peanuts for the performance and the all alloy build quality, I fear this Giulia may go the same way but maybe the scarcity will be in its favour

The Guilin interests me ..... The review on PH this week was interesting as they said that the one car it is aimed at is the XE and these are customers it really needs to go for as the XE is the Sportiest in the class and it's the car beat basically. Well that's me. They said the engines in the Guilia would need to very special to be better than the XE but the XE doesnt have the Alfa flare/passion in its history. I need to get out and drive one soon. Did notice price wise the XE is cheaper and on the configuration the Alfa wheels options on the bread and butter models 17/18's where as The XE has a better choice up to 19's. Looks wise both look great. It's great to hear them talking about these two marquees rather than BMW/Audi/Merc.....For me Jag and Alfa are getting or have the best looking cars in their range.

What a day!!
i got told last night that my bosses wife wants the Giulia and as a means of apologising to me he will increase my allowance thus i can get my 2nd choice the 335d x drive.
This morning he told me to go test drive both cars as he might be able to sweeten her up by getting her an E class.
So i did.

I went to St Albans Alfa who have my actual physical car there (white with red leather) and took it for 20 mile test drive.
i felt a little "cold" after.
A great car, drove very nice around the b roads and on the dual carriage way but not a lot better than my 4 year old 320d.
Infact felt older in many ways.
The infotainment is very poor. The dash is very plasticky.
I love the looks, always have done and always will but i feel unless i can afford the QF then the diesel wasnt really for me.
I read all reviews and the test car itself said it also, 40 mpg!!
One funny thing, infact two funny things.

On the test drive the sat nav packed up (i programmed it for my house just to see the ease of use) and had to be reset and the "brake system" light came up which i was told its because the car has not been pdi'd. I thought if the car is not pdi'd then its almost undriveable ie limp mode but anyway, funny how the light came on during test drive not before.
A quick google search showed me a few testers have reported these failings but they can be rectified via a software update. Still........
these little things were playing on my mind and i did not want to be troubled as ill mainly be with my little girl up and down the motorway.

I have gone for the 335d in estoril blue
Stats? 0-60 4.8
313bhp
4 wheel drive and a real world 40 mpg!!

Sorry to write this on an italian car loving forum, the Giulia is a great car it really is but it didnt quite do it for me in a way i thought it would so the idea of putting up with it for 2 years was having a negative impact on my decision.

I would recommend the car still as i feel Alfa are back, a better car than anything they have made in the past in terms of competing with BMW AUDI etc but it doesnt do everything well it just "gets by" whereas the BMW will be faster than a Maserati have 4wd and give me decent economy and hoping for reliability....

I still have a lovely Alfa V6 to use when i need that Italian touch.

You made the right choice, the Alfa as nice as it is ain't a BMW 335d!! If it was the QF then there is no contest!

Yeah that top gear episode featuring it was an eye opener, I thought they'd be pretty but an underperformer.

The QF guys remains one of my must have cars, its excellent and very quick but the everyday diesel model is rather plain Jane, it's lost that Alfaness for me as I expected a little buzz from driving it but it was so based on a BMW they forgot their DNA. Even the gear selector is identical to my BMW.
If I'm going to have something Italian but it's as much German as anything I might as well buy German and cancels out the Italian foibles with electrics

I would choose a 335D over the diesel Giulia anyday, sounds like a result to me!

Picking my QV up this Saturday!!!! :tomato6:

I'm also coming from BMW (2013 M135i) and I think the infotainment is going to be a backward step! but it's going to be so worth it!

Keep wondering why people are calling it the QF? Its the Giulia Quadrifoglio, so more correctly it should be the Giulia Q. If you want an extra letter then the Quadrifoglio on the badge is verde so QV fits better than picking a random letter out of the middle of a word. I know, I know, its early, and its just my OCD :)

Andy the XE was coming in at more than the 335d

That's a good deal Dem...That 335d engine is hard to beat and Alfa or Jaguar do not have a car to compete.....If you are comparing like for like then they both only to the 2 litre diesel.....You will love the 335d Dem...A quick car.

Can't believe the Dealer is letting Jo public driving a car that is not PDI checked especially Italian as we would often find thinks loose not connected even and electrical plugs left off etc.
They always come with 50 psi tyre pressures to try and stop flat spots.
Quite outrageous in my opinion plus if there is anything wrong found hard to go back to the manufacturer with after the crash test dummies been in there.

I know he told a lie Phil as cars that have not been pdi'd are in limp mode...i just couldnt be bothered to argue as my mind was made up
