Agree in the round but the S is a lot cheaper than the M5/RS6. These is scope for a more powerful engine when the Alfieri comes out with the range of V6 power outputs.

I have had a Petrol one for around 3 weeks now as a courtesy car - It is simply appalling! Horrible ride quality, in sports mode the exhausts rattle like **** and seem they can't handle the noise crazy vibrations...there is always a horrible drone in the car when in sports mode - bad design. The info screen is like some after market Halfords Kit from China. The materials feel cheap - plastic. I dropped the key on the floor and the buttons on the key came off and went all over the floor! Took me 10 mins to find all the buttons! If you don't believe me drop your key and watch it come to pieces - I am SHOCKED!

The car feels like it is a vauxhall or Hyundai and not a Maserati...I really can't believe how they allowed this in to production!! It loses traction even in the dry - yes it is pretty powerful but as a great man once said - power is nothing without control! I don't feel comfortable driving it fast at all. This car has no chance against a BMW or Mercedes no bloody way.

Agree it is cheaper than the M5 / RS6 competition but by the time you have specced it up a bit the gap narrows to the sort of margine where you have no problem of choice and sadly the damage has been done. The model could soon be seen as a turkey much like the Biturbo was.

Agree with mcs if it can't cut it with BMW, Merc and Audi then what's the bl00dy point no matter what the price is.

Whilst I haven't driven it, on aesthetics alone, first impressions of it in the metal at least weren't great.

Maybe it grows on you, but the rear looked a bit Audi/BMW to my eyes.

Side profile looked good.

Well what a to do
I have warmed to the Ghibli (not driven one)
Was hoping the petrol version would be good
It seems not
So where do we (I) go from here?
If I wish to change from my QP, I may have to leave the marque altogether oh dear oh dear

Wait a while, Maserati will change the diesel and boost the V6S to give 500 plus bhp by this time next year

Go and drive one and make your own mind up, but preferably with Skyhook and the wastegates fixed.

Boy oh boy if the current suspension and chassis set up is boosted to 500BHP plus the majority of these cars will be written off in no time!!! No way will it be able to handle this sort of power!

As for Dave I would get a Quattroporte GTS as late a build as possible - what a lovely motor!

Sad reading this.
Saw one in the week parked up at Watford Gap service station.
It didn't stir me to be honest, but was a 'base' model looking at the wheels, they looked at bit on the small side.

Other than on price, I can't see why anyone would choose a new Ghibli over a new QP. The QP looks better, rides better, has more room, etc. But obviously, give the diesel a miss.

As long as the Ghibli in question has skyhook there is little to differentiate the two from the driving seat in my opinion. There are aspects to both exterior designs I like and aspects I do not like but, overall, I could not own a QP due to it's size and stupid length rear doors. Strangely they need a saloon that fits between the two in size and lots of people on this forum already own it, it's just unfortunate that they no longer make it.

I only use my QP V when out with the family or guests, on a long journey. So for me, the bigger the better. The rear of a QP V is fine, but a bit more room (QP VI) would be nice for those back there. Once I've found a good QP III to add to the Maser stable, I'll start looking for a year-old QP VI. But I need to tick the III box before I treat myself to the VI.

Got to say it looks and sounds good on the current series of Italy unpacked on BBC2. This said if you had to guess what it was I would say a flagship Alfa rather than a Maser. Still nice and different all the same.
