Reasonable....!!!!!....The should be standard...Why wouldn't they......WHen the GT came out they were also extra on the option list but that changed almost straight away............Can not believe that there is acharge for them to be honest.

Me to. Interesting that people are not adding skyhook to orders but are adding blingy wheels and pimp glass. That's where the market is though!

Salesman I spoke to last weekend said that the options most buyers were adding to their Ghiblis were the bigger wheels and either the extended leather or upgraded leather with different colour options. Standard leather only comes in 3 colours.

in this day paddles should be "standard"

can I have one in manual? no, they don't do it so must provide another way.....auto is not good enough as most rivals have now paddles

You can still change gear manually using the sequential (tiptronic) type gear lever or leave it in auto.

Also, given the narrow powerband and limited acoustics, I can't imagine many diesel owners actually using the paddles

We have an auto box on the Jeep and that has sort of tiptronic where you can manually go up and down the box with just a tap of the stick, left, or right, it works quite well and you also have kickdown of course..!!

When I bought my Cayman I had to pay for paddles. The standard PDK car comes with buttons on the steering wheel that you use to change gear (or it can be changed with the stick if moved into manual). The buttons are awful to use so I upgraded to a steering wheel with paddles, its a couple of hundred quid, but the wheel is much nicer than the standard one so at least you feel like your getting something for the money. So Maserati aren't the only ones to charge for paddles.

Sorry Paul I dont agree and, personally, I would use them all the time. The diesel engine makes a very satisfying sound and the gear box encourages lots of cog swapping so you can get a buzz from driving it quickly. The paddles would help a lot.

Regarding options, I can't see anybody on the 18" wheels or even the 19" wheels. It's a bit of a joke to offer them. Is the GT-S offered on 18" wheels?

The car is an an auto so I think it is fair to have the flappy paddles as an option. They work very well with the auto box actually, no slushiness at all.

Bet you Mercedes will do you a 6 cylinder diesel with 18" or even 17" wheels.

18" wheels seem normal standard fit for a £50k car. 21" is just plain silly.

I'm not against 18" wheels per se, far from it, but when I saw them on the first demo Ghibli that hit the UK they looked undersized.

Maybe it's the wheel arches, or the general size of the car. I don't think the price of a car is a factor in it.

Mind you the wheel arch clearance on the back of the GranTurismo is too much on 20". They must have had their reasons (?).

I had a very pleasant evening at Bowker Maserati at their Ghibli, QP launch. I had lots of opportunity to study the relative merits of both and I still like what I saw. I do think the rear of the QP is a 'cleaner' design than the Ghibli but I prefer the Ghibli front to that of the QP. I saw a beautiful Ghibli Diesel being picked up; Rosso Falgone with dark tan leather. The Falgone is slightly more purple than Pontivecchio but it is very subtle and under the Lancashire overcast it looked almost black until you notice the contrast with the black tyres. Gorgeous. Thanks for your hospitality Gary, it was much appreciated.

Thanks Ian........was a very good night and we managed to take a few orders too! All the cars were greatfully received. A very long day though and good to see that the Ghibli is now getting out to their new owners.

Gary, thanks very much for letting me have the keys of your diesel Ghibli for an hour or so this afternoon. Like Ian, I was very impressed. It drove very well, was nimble and chuckable when you wanted it to be, but did refined and sedate well too. And the interior is a very nice place to sit, particularly with the part tan leather on your demo car. Just needed paddles.

As an everyday practical Maserati for somebody like me, bored with the usual suspects, it would make huge sense and I can see myself going this way shortly, keeping the GS as more of a weekend special event car.

Importantly for me, it felt every bit a Maserati, even in diesel guise. Sat alongside some GTs, but also amongst a load of BMWs and other brands, there was no doubting its genetics. Its looks are from the Maserati family. And you quickly forget its a diesel your driving because of the way it steers and handles.

We will talk some more idc.

Just been for a test drive in the Ghibli at DL Swindon.

Overall I was quite impressed but it left me a little on the underwhelmed side. I can see it as an everyday car but it just didn't have the whole special something like all the other Maserati's do. I liked the ZF box, very smooth and quick changes with the paddles and the interior finish was up there with the the best German marques. Looks wides it's a bit too Germanic for me especially the rear end. However I'd take one over a 5 series Bimmer or E-Class but I don't think I'd replace a classic coupe Maserati with one but it would make a great complement like Robert has done with his.

Whilst at DL I had a good show around the workshop and florrs, wow what a place they have there.....
