Sounds similar initial symptoms to mine when the CC actuator failed but when my failed I could elect 1st & 2nd gears but no others. The index will find out what has failed hope its a pump as they are a lot cheaper than an actuator which are close to £2k now.
Yes agreed it is the perfect way monitoring the relay as opposed to the pump, but don't know how easy it would be to make such a monitoring circuit as opposed to just buying one off ebay for less than a tenner!
So we need, terminal A is live (pump supply), terminal B is not (TCU trigger), so make terminal C live (warning light)

This would do the job:

Simple delay timer before illuminating a warning light. "F1 pump running too long"
Would this work?
I have asked the lad but he was on his way out the door with his arm candy (as seen at Bruntingthorpe this summer)! He will look into it but I would need some support from knowledgeable members about the full requirements. I agree a buzzer under the parcel shelf would be favourite as long as the driver would be aware of it's meaning.
Ok, just had a message from Alex; he has talked to the MD and they would be happy for him to undertake this as an apprentice project and build a run of units So I'll put him in touch with Voicey and let's see if this can happen...
