I've bought GAP a few times in the past with new cars until my wife, who was a solicitor in a past lfe and spent a lot of time dealing with insrnace companies, pointed out that it's a waste of money and if they insurance company won't pay out the full and fair amount you need to give them pure bloody h3ll until they do. Which they eventually will. Which I suppose is fine if you have the background and know what to quote at them to make them pay up, but for those of us that don't GAP always seemed a sensible - if expensive - precaution. Even so, I'd probably not take it for a used car, just get a good policy from a reputable company.
