Hiya guys,
im looking at getting some GAP insurance for the QP, has anyone been at the point where they have had to use the insurance?
did they actually do what they say?
did you have any problems getting the money out of them?

Cheers

Hi - I looked into this when I got my GTS. A lot of policies will not cover Maserati's so read the T&Cs carefully and check with the provider. I eventually took my policy with www.easygap.co.uk. 4 year transferrable policy with £25k maximum claim - cost £195. Policy is underwritten by Ageas which is a fairly strong insurance company. Hope this helps.

i do have GAP on the wifes C3.. i know its a cheap car but with her....i think a bad idea not to!
but im unsure what to do with the QP.. if i swapped the exhaust or alloys or leather.... would i have problems IF i needed to make a claim?
will they honor a payout if it was a private sale?

Yes scam.
Heard too many stories of people 'crashing their car' to get a new one.
Also heard of people 'crashing their car' and not doing a good enough job...idiots!

ROFL, im not really interested in the "scam" aspect it was just something i was thinking about due to my wifes .....record with cars, and If she was to drive the QP id like to know im not going to be out of pocket..an idea of how "good" she is would be 3 cars in 3 years...and a whole heap of repair's done to my cars most out of the insurances hands to keep my premium's down!.. she even has special conditions enforced by the insurance compo's. Ie only to use the car to pick the children up from school and do a shopping run or in emergency, she cant even jump into the drivers seat on the way to the ring if i get tired and want to swap drivers!.

but i will be changing the alloys and some other bits on the QP like always the insurance compo will be made aware of the changes but if i went down the route of GAP aswell, i dont want them turning around and saying ahh but you changed the alloys or the exhaust etc so your not going to be covered by us.

Dave, GAP should really exist only to make up depreciation short falls and this shouldn't be a significant factor with yours. That said I did get it on mine and on the previous Aygo but we have never had reason to claim.

I've bought GAP a few times in the past with new cars until my wife, who was a solicitor in a past lfe and spent a lot of time dealing with insrnace companies, pointed out that it's a waste of money and if they insurance company won't pay out the full and fair amount you need to give them pure bloody h3ll until they do. Which they eventually will. Which I suppose is fine if you have the background and know what to quote at them to make them pay up, but for those of us that don't GAP always seemed a sensible - if expensive - precaution. Even so, I'd probably not take it for a used car, just get a good policy from a reputable company.

Personably never bought it. I always assumed that it was best for new cars where the initial value hit is large what with losing the VAT straight away. Is it relevant for used cars?

If you have finance on your car (used or new) and car is under 7years old then in my option "return to invoice" gap at around £200 is cheap as chips. Lets say your car gets stolen and written off 2 years into ownership. The insurance company will only pay "fair market value" at the date of claim for a same year / spec car. So lets say you paid £50k and took 50% on finance. 2 years of deprecation is going to look like £40k market value (being very generous) so that's all the insurance company will pay. If you have "return to invoice" gap then the policy will pay the additional £10k.

When I bought the California from Meridien last September they offered GAP insurance which they said was very popular with both Maserati and Ferarri purchasers. It cost £995 for three years cover which topped up any total loss or theft by upto 50k returning to me the invoice price. They said that in any claim they would deal with the procedure. My own insurance company were happy to accept the policy as an add on and agreed that in any total loss situation they would pay out percived replacement value not bottom book value. Meridien told me they have had very few claims under the GAP policy they offered but on those they have had it was paid promptly.

In my opinion I would not opt for it again as new Ferarris and Maseratis are so hard to steal and the number that are written off are very few.

Plus if it is not your fault you can demand, given that it is not a common car, that settlement from the third party is sufficient to replace like for like.

Forgot to say, I went with Maserati Insurance through A Plan and that gives a new car for the first two years rather than the typical one.

This company seem to pop up quite a bit on various forums, they seem pretty cheap.I've just bought a Mini Paceman for the wife, dealer wants £399 but ALA want about £150, I've never bothered with it in the past but for £150 I might bite the bullet.
