future classics?

A lot of folk seem to talk down Saabs as much as they do Maseratis. The 9-5 aero estate in manual guise is a very underrated car. Parts are plentiful and cheap and home servicing is easy. Not beautiful, I admit but a late aero has all the toys you could think of. Practically unmatched as a load carrier( I folded down the seats and moved a full size wardrobe today with the tailgate shut and with 260 hp out of the box it is no slouch. I took mine to Southern Spain last month and averaged 40 mpg on the motorway while rarely under 80 mph.
The 9000 aero is a different beast. I have a few mods on mine and with nearly 500 nm and only about 1300 kg it doesn't hang around.
If I want a really memorable drive I take out the 3200.
I suppose I just love forced induction.

It's worth what someone is willing to pay, so if you want the last then so be it. Some of the others in the lists, I just can't see it. Just old, but fast cars, to me.

If you want to know a sure fire classic before it jumps in price... just buy the next old car I sell as I always appear to sell just before the market takes off... so wish I had kept the Golf mk1 Cabriolet I sold to Phill's mate a few years back.

Now selling for £6k whereas I let it go for less than two.

I just had a call on my GTI at £25k... if I sell it it will be the biggest % increase in two years from any car....

25k for a old Golf GTi.. They were rubbish when they were new, I know, as I had one as a company car!

You've got some balls Phil!

Golf GTis were great in the day and still handle even by todays standards, brakes were always poor so they must be shocking today

Brakes were bad... due to the position of the servo... it was operated by a long leaver in RHD cars as a result of the position of the engine and mounting points for the servo.

Mine has uprated drilled and grooved fronts and it stops really well now, they were underservo'd though so most had the mk2 servo fitted.

I love it. Ask Phil W about Golf's!

Sorry Phil mate, but the Alfa Sud was miles better.. engine, braking, handling, gearbox ,in fact everything!

I had a mildly tuned Mangoletsi 1.5 Ti back in the early 80's in Coventry, suppose it had around 120hp, nothing would touch it, let alone anything with a VW badge!

After missing the Saab the same dealer had this bit of stock coming in so I agreed on it over the phone after seeing the pics. It's a 9k mile mk2.5 MX5. Never get the chance to buy one like this again and it will join the mk1 (NA) in a lovely garage for the minute. One owner, 9k miles, crystal blue, 1.8 NBFL.... it's never been used in the rain/wet/winter and is as good as the day it rolled off the factory floor.

Does the fact that they weren’t made out of cheap Russian steal make the Golf the better car though?

My ‘Sud was condemned due to rust but it was a fabulous car prior to that. Nimble, quick, and a glorious flat-4 twin Weber engine.

I’d take a ‘Sud over a Golf every time.
