Fuse 16 blowing

Its been on here before and a replacement 15A fuse with a battery reset solved it. Today its come back fuse 16 blows straight away as soon as ignition switched to mar - no rear lights, indicators, power windows or seats
Any help on where to look?
Everything was fine today - airbag light comes on and problems start from there

Sounds like a dead short to earth, but I wouldn't know where to start. Is the airbag light still on? If you get the codes read and the airbag is featuring that might be the place to start. Or try renewing the fuse and, if it doesn't blow when you go to MAR, try all the failed items one by one until the fuse (hopefully) blows again and that will be the culprit. I'm not trying to teach your granny to suck eggs but faults like these can be 22 carat, ocean going, fur lined rolling goat f.cks. Good luck, and I hope someone with a similar experience happens along soon.

I agree with your description, after exhausting my supply of 15amp fuses - 10 in all and a wiggle of all the wires (very technical!) one last try with a 20amp fuse and hey presto! - I will change it back for a 15 tomorrow after removing the fuse box and checking wires.
Its done it before but replacing the fuse cured it first time

Good luck with the fault finding. Putting in a higher amp fuse can lead to wire fires but you should (hopefully) be Ok.

Fuse 16 blows because the acceleration sensor under the N?S headlamp has fallen apart. Its very common and can possibly be repaired, as sometime its just needs a terminal resoldered inside it. Its a bugger to get to but i will be very surprised if it didn't cure the problem

Thanks for that Loz. Although it's not very clear as to where the bottom right sensor is located.

There is a metal frame(called the headlight carrier) which supports the headlight itself, its bolted to the underside of that lower right had pic , you will probably have to remove the nearside inner wheel arch to gain access ]

Guys,

At the Dutch maserati-chat we had this issue earlier and after opening the sensor i found out what goes wrong.
The pictures show the little aluminium piece that comes loose and creates shortcuts while wandering through the cabinet of the sensor.

After thorrough cleaning you could glue back the piece on its original place.

Is this purely related to fuse blowing/suspension issues or could it cause a lazy throttle response Luuk , im interested as my GS has a lazy throttle response

Hi loz, how are you?

That fuse is purely suspension related.

The lazy throtlle sounds familiar to me though, i have read that earlier somewhere.
Some say the MAF sensor could be the cause, but my Maserati specialist says the pedalpot is known to cause such a problem too, but i hardly dare stating that here.

When i bought my Gransport, the former owner said he had performance complaints earlier that where solved by the official dealer by remapping the ECU with the latest software provided by Maserati.
He also mentioned a somewhat reluctant behaviour at the first part of the throttle, that should have been solved after the remapping.
Don't know if all of this is correct of course, but the car is "lively" enough i think.

Just spoke to Lancasters re the throttle repsonse , and had my first positive explanation as to what is the cause , its quite simply the clutch making allowances for the fact its so worn , as soon as i mentioned up rating the kis point he said that would do the trick and fix the throttle response but would probably dump the clutch in less that 50 miles , which seems logical , he was very confident that with a new clutch and the parameters correctly set it will feel like a new car

Yup 47K now on its first , still drives ok 98% of the time , just slips a little on hard pull offs , tho its in shortly to be done

You are not thrashing it enough Loz. You must try harder!

That is very interesting - both times its blown has been after / during spirited driving, the last time after an Astra GTE decided he wanted a GP get away from a set of lights, I let him keep his nose in front for a bit then floored it - quite funny really - he should have known better!
Then looked like a t**t has my lights went out!

did you get an ERROR light on the dash?
Had similar after a good thrash, took me ages to find the fuse. Might investigate that accelerometer if it comes on again.
Thanks chaps - top forum.
