Front Shock replacement and front end refurbishment

Hi All,

I've just fitted my some KW coilovers to the front of my 3200 and have a question in regards how they are meant to be attached to the lower wishbone.....

The bottom of the shock body sits in a recess on the lower wishbone, and has a long bolt that goes through the shock and the wishbone, sounds simple. However, when disassembling the old shocks I found there was a washer inserted between the shock body and the wishbone ()circled in red).... this washer does not show up on parts diagrams, and i'm not sure if it should be there, or a previous person to me put it there incorrectly when reassembling in the past. Any ideas from people that have done this job before?

Note, if this washer is not put in place there seems to be a gap between the shock body and the wishbone - is this normal?

It should be there, if there is a gap between the shock and the wishbone it will move around = bad. It was there on mine too.

Put a ratchet extension bar through the hole on the otherside, attach a 13mm (or suitable diameter) socket and tap the bush outwards to increase the gap.

It’s a sliding bush to take up the gap in the shape of a top hat

Consult the drawings but I think not. GT QP rears are the only ones I thought had a separate washer which are always not put back in.

think the washer goes on the bolt head before you fit it.

look on the otherside for reference

Will do. Here are some pics of progress so far at the end of today. All the suspension arms have come back refurbished from VPS in Slovenia, all bolts yellow Zinc'd, vapour blasted hub carriers, new braided hoses, KW dampers, refurbed air ducting, and some yellow calipers to go back on next.

I've added a bit more camber using the shims, and maxed out the caster adjustment as a trial. When complete i'll be in touch with Matt and Ash to have a Geo check and Cam belt :)

I've been working on this project since the start of the year, with the intention of creating the 3200 Maserati would have created if they wanted to take on the 996 GT3 in period.

I've got lots more special parts for the engine, interior and exterior and a name in mind...... I don't think Maserati would have have called it the 'GT3' but I'll reveal the name and the rest of the modifications when it's finished.
