Had been thinking for a while about what to get as a daily driver for work and routine trips. Really want to keep the GS for weekends and events. So went and drove the diesel Ghibli demonstrator at Bowker yesterday. Liked it a lot, particularly in that colour combination, and have today agreed to purchase it subject to the installation of the gearbox paddles.

Very excited about having a Maserati that I can use everyday without thinking about residuals etc, and for our annual family trip down to the Algrave. Think it will complement the GS very well. Hope to collect towards the end of next week.

Thanks Gary at Bowker for being such a pleasure to deal with.

WOW! Many congrats on new Ghibli, are you saying you are having the paddle shift retrofitted by dealer?

Yes, they are dealer fitting the paddles. Apparently, all the mechanicals/electricals are already pretty much there - just the paddles to fit and steering column cowls to replace.

Congrats. Two jolly nice cars indeed.

But I don't really understand your logic on residuals - the new Ghibli will drop in value far quicker than your GS would for similar miles driven. Over three years and 30k miles the Ghibli will drop about, what, £25k? While the GS would drop by maybe £10k - if that.

It's never good to think about residuals with new cars - it always ends in tears. Better just to drive and enjoy! Just think, my QP was £92k new and here were are, 50,000 miles later, and its worth £17k or so. Hey ho!

Ewan, it's more that, as a Maserati through my business, the depreciation won't really hurt me :)

Good man! When I drove it, I really did like it. If a few more of the sceptics on here did so, they might really like it too. Enjoy.

Yes, the combination of interior colours sold it to me. Felt very Italian and Maserati compared to all black..........

Being a diesel, how did you find it? There's been quite a lot of snobbishness about Maserati producing a diesel, but for the market segment its absolutely necessary to my mind and if I were to get one, its probably the way I'd go for a daily commute vehicle.

I found it to be a very good driving experience and I did a quick review and posted it on 'Diesel Ghibli - Test drive'. I really liked it and will be looking to get one in the next 2-3 years.

I saw a few of these in the USA recently and they do look nice, excellent car, I think Maserati have done a good job here and the diesel is definitely in tune with the times. I am also seriously temped by this, its a little smaller that the QP too, which appeals to me.

I choose to drive a Maserati because of the way it makes me feel, the emotional response I get from seeing, hearing and driving it. There are cars that are better in many respects, but a Maserati is more than the sum of its parts.

The Ghibli made me feel the same. Sure it's a diesel, and not the quickest or best handling in its class. But it made me smile in a way that a 5 series, E class or A6 couldn't. In the way that my GS makes me smile, when a 911 doesn't. I have huge respect for these non-Maseratis, but no emotional response to them. It's a personal thing maybe.

I bought the Ghibli because, despite it being a diesel, it's still a Maserati. A Maserati with every day practical qualities. And a Maserati that I hope will secure the brand's long term future.

that looks really nice and love the interior and for me just stands out from the other euro boxes around for the price plus being a diesel and a Maserati all sounds pretty good

Seen a black one just yesterday, I thought it was a GranTurismo when I first spotted it, looked very nice.It would definitely be on my list if I needed a car in that segment.
