So took my mum out for her 70th today, going through Trafford Park and pulled up at lights put it in neutral and set parking brake on. Went to pull away, foot on brake, pulled into 1st and parking brake stayed on I was pulling away and it was having a paddy.

Eventually got brake off and all good apart from when I put the parking brake on again it wouldn't go off on its own, parked up, turned car off, left a minute and then turned back on and all good apart from the stupid Parking Brake On light still coming on for no reason.

Amazing car, some quirks to get used to still.... my mum even asked to wind the window down :)

Why would you put park brake on when stopped at the lights? Can you not just leave it in neutral and leave your foot on the brake?

Leaving your foot on the brake can dazzle the driver behind you, and when you get rear ended by someone failing to stop, the first thing that happens is your foot comes off the brake, so you rear end the car in front.

There's also a chance (apparently) that you can warp your brake discs by un-even cooling. Such was I always taught.

More the rear ending for me, having been pushed forward under a truck isnt a fun experience :) thankfully in a Honda Accord which was like a tank and crumpled safely not the other car which was a Rover 200

I've had similar issues with the EPB caused by a loose battery connection. Could also be a failing battery I guess

Yes you are right. I have to say though I rarely ever pull the hand brake. In my other car the handbrake doesn't really work so it is a bit pointless.

Are you less likely to get rear ended with your brake lights showing? I always keep my foot on the brake when there is nobody behind me in a traffic queue.

Couldn't give you a statistical answer to that. I do know that some people don't select neutral / handbrake until someone has stopped behind them. I shall ask Mrs Catman after she's completed her Christmas Present IAM course (I only did it on the bike, which is a bit different;)

I have to agree the handbrake on these does seem to be rubbish, although people do report well working ones.

Better than nothing though :)

Having being brought up on a strict diet of Italian cars where none of their handbrakes worked, I would not even consider applying the handbrake at traffic lights. Having said that my QP's handbrake works well, it's just totally out of my mind.
