What do we think then?

I have been an avid fan for the past 2 years but it seems to have turned into a marketing exercise now, Gas Monkey T shirts, Bar and Grill, etc.

It worked better for me as a small back street garage making one off cars.

Like Top Gear I will still watch it.

I love it. One of the only shows that I record with Sky+. They're cool guys and the some of cars are fantastic. I especially like it when then don't over restore or even when they don't paint at all and just clear coat the patina. Of course, they're getting well known now and so they have a few extra $$$ and hence the projects are getting larger but that's life and good luck to them.

The 1960 Bel Air this week is fabulous. What a great looking thing.

love this show, and one of my favourites was the '56 Chevy Nomad great colour. I like the idea of looking pretty **** on the outside but underneath...you just never know.
One of the guys work I like is Chip Foose the guy is a genius.

Foose had a show too, didnt he? I also enjoyed Boyd Coddington's.

Yes it was called Overhaulin' some serious pieces of metal, but it was his drawings, I used to do airbrush/artwork/magic marker illustrations at collage of cars and cut aways of engines many many years ago before the age of computers.

The late Boyd Coddington and Chip Foose used to work together but they parted under acrimonious circumstances. It got to the point where Mike, Boyds body work man, took leave to go and help Chip on a project and when Boyd found out, he fired him. Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face. A great shame as they both did fantastic work. IMO, Foose is a genius whereas Coddington was merely brilliant.

Classic quote that had me crying with laughter was Tom: "Man that's so ugly the darn horse kicked it and didn't want his shoe back!"

The guy is a silent genius of the show, well worth keeping an eye on, yep I think it is one of the best American auto shows I just get frustrated by all American shows giving you a recap of what you have just seen then a 'coming up'.... Really? I think I know what I just watched and I can wait to see what is next thanks :)

Foose is cool but the budgets are something else. I'm not always a fan of restoring to the point of renewing. I like the age of some things, it's what makes them charming. The Fast N Loud crew did a Dodge pickup where the renewed the entire running gear, brakes, suspensions etc but kept the exterior original. I like that.

I once saw a Porsche 356 Speedster for sale that was on original paint and one owner. It had dents here and there and stories to tell. For me it was the Mutts Nuts! If it ran at the Carrera Panamera or Mille, why would you rub that stuff out? Interestingly, the Le Mans Porsches at the museum in Stuttgart still have he bugs all over the fronts etc. It's part of the history.

It's the idiots at American Chopper that I don't like! Stupid themed bikes for corporates with lots of chrome and a Harley engine. Where's the innovation? Where's the art? Pants.

The SMC - Super Muscle Car, Barry White was it, that was good, just get on with the car and b0llocks to the arguments and other contrived stuff the other Yank shows see to thrive on.

Yep that was THE show that got me into the Yank shows, The Foose is cleaver but his show sucked!

I'll have to disagree with you there Matt; true, his show was not especially engaging but they turn out great cars and compared to American Hot Rod is was very good. Listening to Dwayne hiring and firing was like finger nails on a blackboard; he had/has no man management skills whatsoever and its no wonder Coddington had such a turn over of staff. The man's an idiot. In the end, I couldn't bring myself to watch American Chopper either; it was like watching a car crash with the endless rows and tantrums. Cringeworthy cr4p for cretins.

There's definitely a hole in the market for a prime time car show that actually tests the cars in ways that are relevant to the average Joe. Top Gear is terrible now and the others have been shifted to lesser channels etc.

I think a lot of people would be interested in everyday, actual comparisons before they buy their regular family car. Practicality, fuel consumption, running costs, servicing, known issues and problems are all important factors for millions of people with one of their major expenses. It would also be good to educate people about finance deals, how they work and what impact they have in reality.

And the car dealers and manufacturers would lap up the advertising slots so surely it's a winner.

Perhaps call such a show 6th gear. Don't forget that TopGear started out like this and slowly morphed into the drivel it is now. Might be time to reinvent the wheel and start again from scratch.

Well the Grill & Bar are cashing in on the lifestyle, clearly RR has got himself comfortable and you can see since the first series he spends less time at the shop. I like the humour they work into the shows.
