F1 Pump (Priming Intervals)

Yes, I did get to the bottom of it. I replaced the entire F1 system. Waited 4 months for the parts but is now as good as new.
The accumulator had failed, along with some of the electrovalves. The pump was also showing signs of poor health. Makes sense as all the parts were 15 years old.

I am interested in learning more about what is and what is not correct F1 pump priming behaviour. First of all my car seems to drive fine and I am not aware of any issues (nor am I aware of the pump running at all when I am driving the car but I guess that is because I would not be able to hear it?) so I hope all is well but I want to know what to look out for if something is not as it should be. Occasionally, just occasionally the car is reluctant to change up into 2nd gear when cold for first few hundred metres. I had this on an Aston Sportshift as well and was told 'normal'

When car cold (stood for several days) - pump primes for 3-4 seconds when unlocking car. Does so again for 2-3 seconds when opening driver door and does so again for 2-3 seconds when turning on ignition - correct behaviour?

When car warm - as above for unlocking and opening driver door but not heard when turning on ignition

Next test for me is to stick head in boot and listen with gearbox in neutral and hopefully not hear any pump action except every 2 minutes or so?

Interestingly and not related I noticed for the first time today I do not need to press the brake pedal to start the car if the gearbox is in neutral (but I do if it is in gear). I assume this is normal? Sort of makes sense.

Sounds right, but the only way to be sure is get the system tested properly. Leakage rates can make a pump prime too frequently. A new pump can mask high leak rates.

If you're worried, get it checked. Otherwise don't fret too much :)

Thanks - I try not to fret and then I come on here and read stuff :)

Seriously though this is a great and informative and super helpful forum and mostly I am just trying to understand quirks versus issues (or put another way what to ignore and what not to ignore)

Evening,

If I recall correctly the Maserati advanced electronic manual for the engine and powertain suggests that for fault diagnose a time interval of no less than 2 minutes (with key on and engine off) between 2 pump primes is acceptable. With engine on and at idle the intervals should be no less than 60 secs. If the pump runs for more than 5 secs is suggests that the pump is on the way out.

If you don't have the manual it should be on line somewhere - interesting read! Hope this helps!

is this normal, specialy the oil leakage with sv triggered and not triggered?

please som advice, i know the topic is old, but i hope i can get answer :)

Hi guys,

Thanks again for your replies, I will check the bypass screw and also the pressure relief valve (are these the same thing?). The car drives fine in all gears it's just the pump I'm worried about, maybe there's still air somewhere I haven't bled like voicey said. Here's my SD printout from before the pipe burst going back quite a few months now.
