FYI the solenoid that controls the back boxes is on the rear subframe beam offside. On an auto you can clearly see it. On an MC shift you have to remove the heat shield and removing the rear back box helps too.
We see many failing Inc my own car.
The vales do seize. Penetration oil and general working over time but if you work it too hard we have seen the butterfly valves snap off and rattle around in the link pipes. When lubing make sure you also do the back side of the valve where it hinges on the other side.
