Folks,

I have a few bits that are suffering from the dreaded sticky buttons, i was contemplating removing everything and getting them all redone, but its only the handbrake switch, the 1/R and then the door window buttons effected everything else is fine so decided just to replace those parts with OEM.

Regards the 1/R console (I have a 2009 4.7S) having looked on Eurospares what am I missing here why is the black one nearly 3 times the price of the other colours? Ive checked some of the others and they also state NEW (To order) but are only £163.25 so why is black £594??

A couple years ago Ross at Meridien quoted me £161 and stupidly i never got one but that price does tie in with the non black ones. What am I missing here am I being thick?

Cheers

Doesn't state it, but I can only imagine at that price it's the carbon fiber one?

Wow that’s a ridiculous price @Ryandoc !
Personally I would get them refinished…I bought a brand new replacement 1/R and in 6 months it was showing wear already.

The only way to avoid it is to have them refinished otherwise you’ll just be in the Sam boat again down the line.
I know Dicky Grace recommends Revolve detailing but not sure on prices…I’ve used Roland and can’t fault his work at all - spot on!

If you really want to stay OEM you could buy one of the cheaper different coloured finishes and dismantle it to swap the buttons over with yours as im sure they will still be black and it’s the button itself rather than the surround you are looking for

There is a third way - take apart the console and remove the offending buttons. It’s not difficult at all - 30mins from getting in the car with the tools to having the 1 and R buttons out on the table ready for cleaning.

If you are lucky, the actual black paint would be undamaged and you can remove the gooey stuff carefully. If you have gone through the black paint and you can see the transparent button underneath a more radical solution is needed. That was the case with my car.

I stripped the black paint off with thinners completely. Then I used a vinyl sticker bought on US eBay which fitted perfectly. Before I glued the sticker I slightly warmed it up using my wife’s hairdryer so that I took the shape of the button underneath completely. If I don’t tell you, there is no way you would know the buttons have been done.

The Revolve chap also sells the stickers. It’s worth considering it…

Hope this helps,

Alex

Good shout Sam that never even crossed my mind. Possibly it is. I was on the scuderia website but I seem to remember theirs showed no price and was POA only.

I’ve emailed a dealer, now that Ross at Meridien is no longer an option. So will see what they say

So my thought process is as only a few items, easily reachable, are goosed, that I’ll chip away at it myself.

Everything on the dash itself is fine but if that starts to go the. I’ll bite the bullet, stick it into a garage and get them to remove everything at once. I’ve read removing the dash is a right faff on so would use a garage for that.

Thanks Alex, I did see a thread about just removing the buttons. If I can actually get a full unit for around £200 then I can live with that. If it turns out though that for some reason the black is daft money then that will be my next option

I bought a new black one a couple of years ago. Was definitely under £200. Can’t find the invoice unfortunately.

The trouble with a new unit is that you still have to disassemble the centre console to get to it, since it's held with screws at the back. If you go that far, you may as well just clean/refinish the buttons.

By the way - if you are set on getting new buttons - get the cheapest option available regardless of the colour of the surround. The buttons aren't difficult to pop out at all. Additionally, the surround is easy to split and then re-colour. That way you would still have a spare.

The dash removal to reach the buttons next to the screen is super easy - 20mins tops. Unlike the usual suspects from Germany, Maserati uses high quality bolts and proper nuts integrated into the structure. There are no clips to break - it just comes apart like a giant Lego set. I have to say, I was very impressed with the build quality. Good videos on YouTube and also the WSM is very detailed.

That’s a good point actually I could buy any colour but just use the bottoms from it good shout

Yeah I know there’s a good picture thread on here for removing the centre console, doesn’t look to onerous so I can definitely do that

Exactly what I was saying with buying a different colour surround if it’s cheaper and only wants the new buttons

Only flag being the same OEM buttons will still wear, only took 6 months with limited driving for my original new unit to start showing signs
