Elise driver looking at buying a GS

Gentlemen,

A few Elise owners (I'm one as well) pointed me in this direction :luvit:

I would like an MC Victory but I can't find a nice one in my region... (I live in Luxembourg)

I saw a nice red GS, but I'm not shure about the colour? What do you guys think? I presume that it is not easy
to sell a GS in that colour?!

I own a red Alfa 1750gtv from 1970, they must be red, but a Maserati? I don't want to loose more money than with a blue GS
when I sell it in a few years time!

The owner told me that the clutch is on 58% (at 70.000km), he did 14000km in 4 years, back then the clutch was at 53%... that sounds not that bad, or am I wrong?

When must a clutch be changed?

I think I have Maseratitis

many thanks

Janus

Welcome along Janus!
Lots of GS owners on here, so you will not go short on opinions.
As an outsider view (not owning a GS) I think they are regarded as the most sorted of the 3 "new/old" masers. The prices seem to have reached the bottom and there seems to be indications that they are starting to rise for good examples now.
As to colour. Always going to be a personal preference but I have a very simplistic view in that no matter what colour you pick, there will always be someone who loves it too so it might take a little longer to shift anything other than the popular colours but if a good example is priced right, it will shift. Personally I think the GS looks superb in red, especially if a cream or black interior........
Can offer no comment on the clutch wear since I have no experience with wear indicators and how accurate they are.

Welcome Janus.
I also live in Luxembourg and the only way I could get a decent and affordable 3200 was by looking in Germany, France, Netherlands and Belgium.
Luckily I manage to find one in Antwerp so it was only a 200km drive.
I suggest you start by looking on autoscout24.com to see if you find something near by.

Regarding clutch, I'm sure someone here with the CC gearbox will be able to give better directions but from what I understand the worn ratio is not linear (takes longer to get from 0 to 50% than 50 to 100%)
At 60% usage you should expect a change in about 10.000km depending on your driving style
Also, be sure to have it read at the maserati dealer to be sure as the clutch service is quite expensive in these cars.

Welcome.

Red is a very in demand colour for the GS believe it or not. A few years ago, I agree, they were seen as a Ferrari copy colour but now they sell very strong.

Clutch, at 58%, its had the best part of its life. When the clutches go, they dont usually make it to the point of slipping (90% upwards) what happens is the clutch cover tangs break and this is more prevalent in the GranSport due to its fiercer gear change.

A big warm welcome Janus to the forum...MC Victory...WOW.....Just the best GS.....Very rare to. Personally I love red on the GS it really suits it. How many miles has the car done on the clutch? Is it the original?

Thank you very much for the welcome, and for the many replies!

@ Conaero interesting what you say about the colour! I must rethink the whole thing one more time!
One thing is shure in the last 2-3 month many GS disappeared from the ads (autoscout & mobile) I don't know if
they were sold, or if they try their luck after winter...

Ok so 10k :) Where do you service your car? Intini?

Welcome along & good luck in your search. I too think that the red GS looks fantastic, as do some of the blues, silver/greys and black.
Happy hunting

Janus, I said 10k from the top of my head from what I read in the forum.
People driving 4200's and GS will be able to give you a more accurate figure, but the worn percentage is just an indicator and depends on your driving style.

I service my own car and buy parts from Intini.
I found their hourly rates reasonable, however the first quote I ever got from them to service my car was very expensive so I decided to do it myself.
For the clutch, you will have to resort to them as they have the factory tools to calibrate the TCU afterwards.
You can email them to ask for a quote to change the clutch and if you have the VIN of the car and the guy at Intini is in a good mood, you can ask for the service history.

Regarding your comment on the cars disapearing from the ads, I have seen that during the winter period there are not many cars for sale.
I think most of them hibernate for the winter as it can be challenging to drive them in the wet/snow :)

Welcome and good luck with the search. I must admit to taking a sneaky look at Gransports and MC Victories in particular. There are at least 5 for sale in Europe at the moment, around the 50-60k Euro mark.

Looks nice and it seems to have tubi's and partialy decat'd
I'm not very into the prices of the GS over here but 36k€ seems a decent price.

Just bear in mind it's a private sale without warranty ...

Hi @ all,

quick update, well in reality there is no update :-( I decided not to go and see the red GS, for one only reason I want a blue or bianco Fuji GS/MCV
I thought there were more examples for sale during winter (like in spring), but ... I hope that it is not going to be this way the whole winter...

so if anyone on the continent knows a good example :thumb3:

Good luck with your search..... I would imagine it could be a while if looking for bianco Fuji as the are very rare indeed. Blue should be easier to find.
