Electrofan issue...

I've had about 8 months of trouble free enjoyment, but nothing lasts forever!

Has anyone ever had to replace the ELECTROFAN (Part No. 980010980)?

Mine has decided not to work.
I've checked every fuse, done all types of resets, and I even looked under the hood where the pollen filter sits, as well as getting to the top of the electro fan (that spins freely). All the vents seem are cycling (IE: going from defrost, to feet, and to all others).
I even switched the ECU for the HVAC (3 knob unit) since I replaced mine for an unrelated issue a year or so back(no change).

I have on occasion seen the "E" where the ambient temperature reads. Based on some previous posts that I've seen here mentioned this scenario, so I ordered the new ambient temperature sensor. Even if that doesn't clear it up, at least that'll be one less minor issue. Either way, once the sensor arrives, I'll replace it and keep the forum posted.

I have my doubts that a failing sensor can make the fan not work, but it's a cheap fix!
If the sensor doesn't work, I can only assume it's the fan itself right?
I'd love to hear of any other "fixes" if anyone has any.

Cheers!

If you get the 'E' That does not mean there is a problem with the ambient sensor. You need to access the error code. (Unless you already have)

With the fan, not heard of one failing before, but have had two or three reports (including mine) that the connector that sits just below the glove box (on an RHD car) is not quite man enough for the job, and can have a little lie down.

What symptoms do you have?

Thanks for the reply Catman!

My symptoms are....
-fan does not work at all
-fuses good
-battery reset/HVAC reset done - no change (AA00 came up as the "error" code below gear display, but I believe that code confirms there are no errors in the ECU?)
-no odor of a burnt out motor/melting connector

I followed the thread that shows how to access the fan through the engine bay and the fan spins freely.
I also removed and replaced the drainage tube since I was at it. :)

I'll definitely try the connection, but in the LHD the fan and connection (and drainage tube) are surrounded by cables, wire harnesses, etc.
I'm afraid I may not be able to properly identify the right connection.
I'll disconnect and reconnect all within reach, and with luck I'll get it going.
I'll let you know.
Cheers!!

Update...
I'm fairly certain my issue was due to a weak connection (thanks Catman!!).
While I had the ignition turned on,and the fan at max, I felt around the many wires close to the electrofan, and lo and behold the mighty fan suddenly started!
Feeling pleased that I didn't have to replace the fan, I then realized I have to find the source of the loose connection.
Is it the ground wire, is it the connector, is it a short in the harness???
No matter...this will no doubt give me hours of fun solving the mystery!
Plus the added bonus of bringing me one step closer to full enlightenment with respect to Maserati ownership!! :D

Maserati ownership....exciting in every way!! :degree:

Yay! Three for three!

Odds are it's the whole plug. Either the connections are just loose, or possibly that the cable to connector is weak due to vibration.

I think it's a big white one.
