Electric seat not working - 4200

So, the movement and tilt on my drivers seat is busy. The lumbar still works though, which I presume means it’s not a fuse.

Where do I start?

If it were me, and as those in the know havent jumped in with erudite direction, Id start with a battery reset.
If you've been tempted by the recent fall in price of 4200s and have been fishing under the seats for a spare quid or two, it may be as simple as a wiring issue if a connector has come adrift.....?

I believe there is a seat specific reset - no idea if it can help in this situation...

4200 seat reset

Unlock the car
Open the door and then immediately flick the seat base switch fore and aft, for and aft (twice)
put the seat back forward
The seat should cycle twice fully forward and fully back then beep (if not you did not flick the seat base switch quickly enough of opening the door)
Put the seat recline back and reset the seat and memory
Repeat for the other front seat.

Assuming none of that has changed the state of play- I gUess you'll have to pull the seat and test the motor on the bench...? I dont think its a massive job.

This happened to me too , I pulled and cleaned the fuse and fuse contacts , never had any more problems , not with the seat anyway .

My front driver's seat has recently stopped working (passenger is ok). I can adjust the lumbar but no forward/back or up down. Any suggestions?

Does it move at all when you press the buttons?

Just the lumbar support goes in and out. But the tilt function on the same button and forward/back button does nothing. I have just removed the NIT so wondered if this has upset it somehow?

Mine has stopped intermittently but if i use the up/down then forward/backward I can coax it into life. I had read on this forum it’s the bushes in the seat motors which can be cleaned but not sure how.
Also a Porsche boxter motor is the same apparently.

Hmmm, not sure the NIT removal should be impactful but, if the seats don't move at all, the reset won't work.
I think you need it scanned, I'm afraid

The driver's seat in mine was completely dead following a flat battery even though the battery had been revitalised. Turned the battery isolator switch off overnight and problem solved (however the seat often has a mind of its own regarding movement speed despite extensive investigation by SI)

So it’s likely to be one of a few things. The switches themselves (they might have dirt in them, or some other fault), the motors, or the power to the system.

If you are so inclined and can get to them and the plugs, you can check the supply to the motors from the switches using a multimeter to see if they are supplying voltage. If the switches work then it’s probably the motors.

If there is no voltage from the switches then it’s fuse or switches (easily checked).

All sorted. Just switched the isolator off and on in the back and it sprung to back to life
