Maybe for some leisure reading for you guys I decided to post this in the UK as well. About a week ago I was called down to the South Shore in my area to work on and check out an F360 Spyder and the day after Lamborgini Gallardo.
Initially I met one Lambo guy when I was scanning the F360. He wanted to know whether I had a scan tool to access them and if I worked on them. I had to tell him I did not but I would check on the software to see what it would cost.
The next thing I noticed was that I had more access to the F360 Spyder then I did on my Spyder. Both of them were 02's, but for the Ferrari I shut the air bag light off, I accessed every sensor on the softtop (Capote settings). I was quite beside myself and even a bit jealous (maybe it's 360/430 time after the GS?). He just needed an F1 pump replaced but I was checking to see what his solenoid leakage rates were and was again pretty messed up that I had more access to his Ferrari than my Maseratis.
Either way, so that session went pretty good. He had a Gran Turismo there as well that needed to be scanned. His airbag light was on. Once again, nada. It stated I had communication but when I pulled up the individual sensors they all read no data. Ironically, that's one thing Auto Enginuity sold me on was that they had all the access to the newer cars for Maserati but limited to the older.
Okay so the very last thing was the Gallardo. I was asked if I could put a pump in the car. I didn't have any experience with the Lambo but I did know they share the same style pump.
It seemed like when I got there though, the pump sounded healthy. It wasn't blowing fuses, and the system was showing issues even as the pump cycled. Long and short of it was I definitely did not believe it was a pump issue. If there was a loss in pressure it was coming from somewhere else other than the pump shutting down or getting weak.
However, the gentleman convinced me two different Lambo Techs told him it was a pump issue. So having the limited knowledge I did I acquiesced to what they told him. I don't usually do it because I know that in this higher end field there is a lot of parts changing to find the issue.
I am glad I got the experience. I did change the pump out and learned really quick by the way, the egear system and the F1 system are almost identical. The pump, solenoid block, and even the actuator are the same, all made by the same company. Their operations are definitely identical.
So long and short I installed the pump put the car back together and...........wait for it..............wait for it.............no it didn't fix it. It did the exact thing it was doing before. It wasn't a pump issue. So anyway, I didn't have the software to scan or see leakage rates or anything. I wasn't happy about that considering I knew these systems well if I could read the data. I only charged the gentleman parts because I didn't fix the issue and I wasn't going to charge someone for something they didn't need. So he got a brand new E gear pump installed. I got a pat on the back and experience.
BTW.....I went to the gentleman's detail shop where his Lambo was at to change the pump out. LOL....I was bringing all the tools from the back of my Dually out from my tool box. He must of thought "this guy didn't come here to play too much". I use a bunch of Lithium battery tools by Milwaukee. They are faster and less cumbersome than my air tools so.........anyway thought you guys would enjoy that.
Here's some photos.......wouldn't leave you guys hanging:
