Dual SIM phones

I was talking to a colleague today who has converted from carrying a work phone and a personal phone to a dual sim iPhone.

The advantages he tells me are that he doesn't look like a drug dealer, which seems like a good idea, but I am concerned about the drawbacks. Can you have two whatsapp accounts? Contaminating my photo stream with photos from work. Does anyone have any experience of this?

On samsung and some other android phones there is a dual mode setting which allows you to run a versions of whatsapp and other messenger services for each of your sim numbers.

You can also keep your work apps email and the like in a seperate private section of your phone if required.

Iphones i cant help you with but im sure somebody on here will know.

Thanks. I have heard that Android will allow two versions of WA, but the fruit based devices are a little more tied down. Apparently you can use WA for Business for one of the accounts which works around that.

We use to have Dual Sim phones back in the day but they stopped doing them due to lack of demand, didn't realise the iPhone 11 had dual sim capability off to investigate as I hate carrying 2 phones

I have an e-sim in my iPhone. Yes. Definitely limited but also kind of handy. I don't think you can have dual Whatsapp. Can't even have different ring tones or tex notification sounds.

I have a dual sim phone which is for sale actually if you fancy it Zep.

For me, the best android phones there are are made by Oneplus. The phone is a Oneplus5T which although now superseded, is still fully current in operating system etc. The wife uses them as she has a sim for work and her personal sim. They work seamlessly together, you simply pick which sim you're using for data and then program a different ring tone for each. When you make an outgoing call, you pick sim1 or sim2 and that's it. Superb.

iPhone has normal sim and esim - I have UK number on esim and Irish on sim. You can have many esim contracts on one esim but only use one at a time. I've been looking at adding a Lux and BE esim contract but they are so expensive here!

The chinese spec iPhones have a true physical dual sim, I don’t recall the functionality differences but its worth looking up.

I have just ditched my Chinese Huawei and have a new HTC Desire 20 Pro that is physical dual SIM. I do t use Dual SIM but could try it to see how it works when I get 5 mins spare in 2022!

Shows a 1 next to the signal bar ATM. So guessing you could go dual network and dual SIM as well. It is Android so would expect you could have dual presentation which is a feature Blackberry released a couple of years back with their new range of devices back then.

I'm also a big OnePlus fan - just moved from a OnePlus X to a OnePlus 5 (very 'trailing edge', me.)

For a while the only people I knew with a OnePlus X were me, my son (bought together), my son's flatmate (totally by chance) and someone on here I met at the Ace Cafe (sorry, can't remember who).

Used to have a dual SIM phone years ago and it was a pain in the bim, but they might be better now. Other option is jut to forward all calls from one phone to the other, and use Android to duplicate Apps.

I went through each OnePlus from the start until 5t and then Vodafone business offered me a very strong deal for an Iphone, so I took it. If I was choosing myself and not thinking of the financial element, I'd choose a OnePlus. Missus has a 7t now, it's very nice. However, I believe with the new 8t, they are moving away from raw Android and putting their skin onto Oxygen OS which is a step away from their principal of keeping it clean and un-corporate.
