Driving to MOT

My coupe is currently untaxed and out of MOT.
My nearest specialist garage is 70 miles away.
If it is booked for an MOT can I legally drive it that distance for the test?

Yes you can drive your vehicle to a testing centre without an current valid MOT, but if stopped by the police, you will need to show proof of your appointment.

Regardless of the booking, if the vehicle is dangerous then you may still face a penalty.

Is it not the case that the testing centre should be reasonably close to your home?
I believe so...whatever "reasonable" means !?
It is not the case however, that should it fail, you can drive it back from whence you came...which is pretty much obvious given the first reply that states if it is "dangerous", you may face prosecution. A failed MOT removes any doubt about the vehicles status as roadworthy...! So you cannot drive it aftr a fail under any circumstances I understand

I have the MSP and ABS lights on, so I don’t expect it to pass first time, but it does seem to drive fine.

Just be careful as it might be a stretch too far 70miles away…. I previously took my Maserati GranCabrio to my chosen local MOT garage which is 8 miles away.

It was picked up enroute by a local hidden ANPR camera and I received a notice of intended prosecution, for driving with no valid MOT… but successfully challenged, saying I was enroute to the MOT and for a prearranged test slot time&date.

Any fault light on the dash is a fail.

Msp and abs would suggest the speed sensor in the wheel hub is sending an out of range signal. Abs wont work, hill hold wont work and msp wont work.

It could be the battery is low if they have suddenly come on and stayed on.

The speed sensors self test every time you start the car so if its a battery issue it will clear once fully charged or fresh battery if old battery is showing its age.

If you have a local garage just up the road, their MOT certified inspector will treat your car just as he would for any other car, irrespective of make or model. So you don’t really have any justification for driving extra miles for an MOT inspections with the inspector of choice. For a service, yes drive half way across the country if you wish, but for not for an MOT.

Shut up you tw4t. Why spoil the opportunity for sh!ts and giggles?
Sorry Benny, didn’t actually realise you were still on here. Thought you were banned, personally sort of glad you are not. You obviously just pop up now and again to call people tw4t’s.
