Hi all, I have been keeping an eye out for a 4200 and have noticed this underpriced one come on.

The seller "moll.skin" has done a straight copy and paste from a previous ad using the same pics and discription.

This is the item number 291572928279

Do not be tempted the car belongs to someone else.

I have informed eBay but it is still for sale!

I also let the seller of the original ad Don know, so also reported this dodgy ebay ad.

glad I found this, I was browsing the adverts like any car nut and found this one, I contacted the seller, and this is the response by text message........obviously thinking it might have been dodgy I came back the this site to search and found your post, I saw a few comments in another post about it as well saying they didn't get anything back, well I got this reply.

Hi, The 2005 MASERATI COUPE V8 CAMBIO is still available for £9,250 on e-bay but my ex partner is the owner so if you are interested email him at mike@pacificdrilling.co.uk. We're in divorce so please send your number to Mike. I hope that helps! Lisa

ah yes, the old, he's on an oil rig, Aberdeen probably isn't remote enough for a Maserati scam as somebody might want to come and see it

We got that exact same response a few weeks ago when we were looking. Seem to recall the car is dark blue and in Inverness, needless to say we ignored the response

Perhaps I am being stupid but how does the scam work. If I was interested in it I would want to see it, drive it and even have it inspected before handing over any money. I certainly would not be handling over cash before seeing it. Someone fill me in, where is the scam?

They will ask you for advance payment to take car of paperwork and/or export depending on the scam being pulled.

Well I reported this to EBay and it is still there.
It is also possible that it is a seriously brassed off ex wife trying to screw the either financially or giving him hassle.
Perhaps she lives in Inverness now but car certainly is not photographed there.

The wording of the text message guarantees it is a scam...

"Hi, The 2005 MASERATI COUPE V8 CAMBIO is still available"

A real response would have been "Hi, the car is still available" or at most "Hi, the Maserati is still available".

Nobody talks like that, hence its a scam, guaranteed.

A post about a dodgy tvr ad on pistonheads explains how it works

I thought it would be considerate to let people know about a con artist that i have identified recently. I posted this in the Tuscan group and it was suggested i put it here as well. This related to P6 TUS that was being advertised recently.

This chap has tried this with a focus RS (link below) and the aforementioned Tuscan and probably more, so please be aware.

As a follow up to this, i thought you might like to know that i followed up with the advert just to prove to myself that it definitely wasn't legitmate.

I was right. Whilst emails from the "seller" were clear and written well, the story he was selling just didn't add up. He is trying to run a typical escrow scam. This involves the seller claiming that they are abroad in a country where the import taxes on the vehicle make it uneconomical for him to take over, so he wants a quick sale in the UK. He then claims the car is sitting with a 3rd party escrow service to enable a safe transfer of the car from the seller to the buyer, and a safe transfer of cash from the buyer to the seller. The seller will claim to have been messed around before, and will only travel back for a viewing if you put some money down to the escrow agent as a desposit, which of course he will claim is fully refundable if the buyer isn't satisfied. He may even have more pictures of the car, and attach some phoney form of ID.

It will all seem moderately believable, especially as the scammer will provide a link to the escrow service they are using. It will be a website that looks like a real company's page. Unfortuntaely it's a site the scammer has setup. So if you put a deposit down, it's just going straight to the scammers account.

He tried the tactic on a Ford Focus RS site, and was found out. http://www.focusrsoc.com/forums/topic/176297-cv59-...

Unfortunately people like me are this scammer's worst nightmare. Below are his details so everyone is aware. If there is a better place to put these so more people can be alerted, please advise.

Scammers Real Name: Xhevahir Sefolli
Nationality: Albanian
Pseudonym: Anthony Craig Bowes, Chris Frazer Scott

Fake Escrow Company: Express HCW Ltd http://www.express-hcw.com/

I believe he operates out of Express Hand Car Wash; a car wash that he runs. Address:
16 Stukeley Road Huntingdon PE29 6HQ

The police have been alerted.

I had contact with the "seller" Mike.
Told him I could inspect car in Inverness and it then moved to Bonnyrigg!
Told him if in Bonnyrigg it was close to PK Supercars who could inspect for me.
Told me he wouldn't allow an inspection until I paid him £9250 plus £150 delivery.
Said he would transact through Google only.
Claims he works offshore although the company email address he uses is very close to a genuine firm.
Said he was stuck offshore so when I asked him which rig he worked on as I have lots of contacts offshore he suddenly stop answering my emails.
As scams go it is pretty clever.
eBay still won't pull the advert though despite it being reported several times.
That is a worry!

I can't say I'm surprised , they might lose their fees

Funny how they're straight onto anybody circumventing their fees though
