I forgot the 75 TS - F75 PAB. Oh my good lord, probably the best balanced car ever. 150bhp and 1200KG, perfect weight distribution.

The longest I have ever kept a car - 4 years, excepting the GS (now heading for its 6th year in my care).

Just wonderful mechanically, interior made of sticklebrix and Italian **** film upholstery. Bomb drop handbrake.

Sold it to my best mate and he still talks/raves about it 15 years later. Last seen in the Bournemouth area, acquired as a resto project. Hope she is still alive.

Miss my daily driver Alfa Romeo Black Brera V6 Q4.

Not the quickest. Not the most frugal. ****, not even the best handling.

But definitely the prettiest and most engaging machine I've ever owned - until the Maser.

Wouldn't leave the driveway unless absolutely pristine.

Bloody loved that car.

I miss all my Italian mistresses for various differing reasons. I wish I could keep them all.

My AlfaSud Sprints were special for trying to be mini-Ferraris and providing so much fun, and so much refinement of engineering. They had 5-speeds when 4-speeds were common, all around discs when most had rear drums, inboard discs on the front, smooth revving gem of an engine when the competition was producing asthmatic pushrod limps, overhead cams, four carb barrels, well-equipped with velour, tinted windows, head restraints when all that was extra on others. Could carry four adults (regularly), gorgeous throttle response, lovely rasp, great handling.

I miss my 164 because I think it was my first 'grown up' car and I've fond memories of transcontinental journeys done at licence-losing speeds in pre-camera days. The slush-box suited it and the effortless grunt of the 3.0 gave it startling shove at the traffic-light grand prix. In fact it left the line much quicker than I dare do in my QP because I'm afraid of frying the clutch. Carried five in comfort with a boot which could swallow more than my other half could throw at it. I also think it was quietest car I've owned. Someone on Alfa Owners did a decibel meter reading in his 164 and 166 (same tyres, same road, same speeds) and found the 164 measured much quieter. I could step out of a twelve hour run as fresh as a daisy - mind you, I was twenty years younger!

Audi s3 2009, because it made my cornering a lot lot faster, leading me to experiment with my skills when driving the maser later on.
Mg tf 160 2007, one of the last built. I fell in love with the shape, the engine in the middle and the lack of electronics. It was sometimes a scary challenge.
Would love to come back to them.

997 Carrera 2S Manual was a rather special one, have since driven a 991 and as much as it's more capable it still wasn't as engaging as the 997 I hear they've come a fair way now though but still only so much you can do with electric steering!

Also 05 Roush Mustang. Wasn't particularly sophisticated, or well put together, an exhaust loud enough to silence pretty much anyone or thing...but...it had this character that just grabbed you and everyone else, couldn't go to tesco without at least 4 people crowded around wanting a chat, even had police stop me to ask about it! The noise was epic smiles per gallon were limitless. At some point I will have another the 2014 RS3 with 700 hp package maybe in a few years if one finds it's way over here. (Roush do upgrade brakes and suspension and they actually can go around corners without hitting trees!! - GT500 struggles with this though)

Really, you found a 997 engaging? They get more watered down with every generation. Try to grab a shot in an 80s 911 or a 964 or 993 if you can.

I found it more engaging than the 991 so I can agree with your comment of them becoming watered down with each version, but yeah have to say I quite liked it. Brakes were rubbish though! And for something with less then 400hp my god was it rapid loved the 6 speed manual far better then the new 7 a good manual gearbox is sure to dissappear soon....

Ones that stand out in my mind were:
Ford Capri 280 (Last made) British Racing Green (Really quick but rubbish brakes)
Rover 827Si White (Good Police look alike and fast)
Golf GTi Silver (Quite quick)
Jaguar XJR 4.0 V8 Maroon (Rapid car for it's size)
Austin A35 Van, Grey, (blankets in the back great pashion wagon)
All Maserati's

The only car i have owned that i wish i never sold is my old 306 GTi-6. Had it for years and never grew tired of its revvy engine and great chassis. ended up getting peanuts for it too - if i could go back in time i would keep it, strip it and use it as a track car.

Occasionally i miss the amazing handling of my tuned Evo 8 MR, overall though its the Mas that is easily my favourite car.

I still dream about my E28 M5, had so many great drives with friends across the country.

My XR3i but only for all the parties it took us to over the summer holidays.

Just gone through the same process as you Wack. Just parted company with an Alfa 159 2.4TI tweaked by Alfatune. Not as quick as a Maserati or a WRX but has been a solid reliable fun car for me for almost 8 years and 70000 miles.

Three cars I miss from my previous owned models. The 159 TI. Alfa 156 Veloce and the one that will make you laugh is my 3rd car i ever owned 1300 MG metro. Handled like a go cart. 1/4 turn of the steering wheel would get you round most corners. Suffered from tin worm but it drove well and fun to drive.

You will miss the WRX, you will keep hoping something changes so you can run two cars but the pain of parting with your current pride and joy will start to fade as soon as you turn the key in your first trident and push the loud pedal. ;)

I can totally get the metro , some of the most fun miles I've ever driven were in a MX5 1.6, it's not all about power

A mechanic I know has the engine out of a MGF sitting on a shelf , I've been trying to convince him to put it in a metro because it'd fly

I didn't mean it was at all bad, far from it, they're excellent. Just that they're nothing like the older cars. I've not driven a 991 yet but expect to fully agree with your description of it being watered down further. This is why the GT versions have become more and more revered.
