DMS ECU Upgrade Group Buy

As some of you will know I had an ECU software upgrade performed on my 52 Plate 4200 Spyder last Friday and I am astonished by the increase in power.
I have spoken with DMS about a group buy discount which they are supportive of.
I have started this thread so that anyone interested in the group buy can put their name down to see how many might be interested. The amount of discount would no doubt depend on the numbers participating so it's just a first look to see the number that might go for it at the right price.

The figures for my spyder are:

Before After
HorsePower 393 443.8
Torque 330 370
Rev Limiter 7500 7900

The DMS website has more details:

I may be interested if there's a reasonable discount. I assume we're working down from £1,200?

Is it worth asking what the reduction would be if we get ten on board?

This is all very interesting. I would def be interested in this if the discount was good. .....HOWEVER I need to buy my car first :) so just an intial showing of interest at this stage.

Makes me chuckle Andy, not yet got the car, but straight into the upgrades. I picked mine up at 2pm, the other side of the country, withing 2 hours of being back at home i have bought a set of larini back boxes and a FD DBW module. :)

Nick, at the right price I would be interested. Just got my insurance and before very much longer it will need a new clutch and a service! Looks like an expensive first year of ownership!

With the group buy, will any 4.2 Maserati qualify as they are all the same engine anyway. Did they do a dyno beforehand? Evo put a QP on the dyno and got 395 bhp or so, definately sub 400. Dare I ask, if its so easy to bump these engines upto 445 (as your dyno proves) why did Maserati ship them with sub 400?

Also, what happens with insurance with such a bhp jump?

Sorry to hear of your sons poor health BennyD...hoping all goes well and he gets better as soon as possible.

I think in answer to Simons question, yup your insurance company should be told.....................what did Nicks company say?

I think it was more a question of what output the head honchos at Ferrari wanted it to be...ie clashed with their marques performance and niche of the Maserati marque!

Cheers P, his treatment is early days as yet but is going as well as we could hope for, so far. As for Simons query; perhaps Ferrari didn't want Maserati out-performing some of their cars so marketed a 'starter car' for future Ferrari owners. As for insurance, it's probably only an issue if you have to make a claim and they have a technician look into the ECU. At a guess you are more likely to come unstuck with undeclared Larini's. But don't quote me!

The problem is if you do have an accident and the other side has personal injuries and the insurance back down due to the mods you'll have a crazy bill especially if somebody was badly injured. Not worth the risk IMHO.

I always thought it a bit fishy that every new iteration of the Maserati only gained power in increments of 10 bhp!

In theory your insurance company can refuse to pay out if you have put on aftermarket wheels and not told them, They do like an excuse to either not pay out or up the price.
Rumour is 90% of upgrades are not reported to insurance companies.
My insurance is nearly due so i guess we will see if it turns into a deep pocket or a three Monkeys moment.

I agree Simon and you are right, but unless your Insurance company does get suspicious there is nothing to indicate that a cars ECU has been modified and is unlikely to go to the expense of investigating on a hunch, especially in a car that is capable of doing 176 mph as standard. If you had a 1.1 Corsa and got clocked at 130 just before a major prang then you would be up carp creek. Just an observation, not advice!

I have been watching this thread with interest and I am more than a little surprised at the low number of people interested in getting such a useful power gain. I appreciate some would have reservations re insurance but surely there are more amongst us that would like to spring the odd surprise to middle order Ferrari owners by giving our cars what they should have had from the start. And remember we didn't buy these cars because they are cheap to run, surely, we bought them because they are high performance sports cars and this upgrade gives them more. Quite a bit more.

I agree BennyD, i would be more that intrested in this upgrade but do not know how it would effect any warrenty claims.
My old 3200 certanly gave my brothers old 360 a run for its money (3 car lengths to 140).
